1. I heard the shooter had a silencer. WTF does anyone need a silencer? That is
something new, I remember a couple years ago they made them legal for hunting in Ohio. Silencers were something
the mob used in assassinations why does anyone need them for hunting or anything else? Now gun owners have to have them to shoot a deer. |

2. The NRA and gun manufacturers have been lobbying for years to make silencers (suppressors)
legal, and they've been successful. It still requires a lengthy and expensive process to buy one in states that allow them, but most anyone who can buy a gun can get one if they're patient and are willing to pay the "tax stamp" fee. Many makes and models of pistols and rifles now come with factory-threaded muzzles to attach a suppressor.
The things are very expensive for what they are. I suspect manufacturers and dealers earn a hefty profit on each sale. It seems to be a growth industry. In the end, it's all about making money selling toys to the gun fondlers. |

4. Suppressors are not silencers
Suppressed guns are still damned loud, especially at close range. Hollywood is not the place to learn about guns.

5. Why does anyone need a suppressor? My dad shot I don't know how many deer with one shot
using a bolt action 30/06 or 243 rifle that held like 3 or 4 rounds. He didn't need a semi-auto AR-15 with a 30 round magazine
and a suppressor. A few years ago a person may have had a .38 revolver of maybe a 1911 /.45. Now people have a dozen handguns that can fire 15 to 20 rounds without reloading. This country has gone gun crazy. |

6. To reduce hearing loss
In Europe many countries mandate suppressors as a health issue.

10. Suppressed guns are still as loud as jack hammers
Why are they a threat? Do you really think they actually silence guns like in the movies? Hollywood is not real.

7. Please don't pettifog terminology after these events, and "damn loud" doesn't mean as loud as
... they are without a suppressor.
Come on ... damn |

12. Depends on the suppressor and distance ... There's no good argument for them

13. I find mine useful
Given I already have some hearing loss from my time in the Navy. Still need hearing protection but any reduction in db helps.

3. Dont worry, the NRA will die soon via in-fighting and Ms Letitia James
They're already fighting each other and eating their young. Soon there will be no more NRA , once all their financial scandals are brought to light. Once they have no money, they will die. We do however to watch out for any replacement organizations - and watch them closely, period.
