American Couple Found Dead at Dominican Republic Resort...

A couple from Prince George’s County, Maryland, were found dead while vacationing in the Dominican Republic, relatives said.
The bodies of Cynthia Day, 49, of Upper Marlboro, and her fiancé Nathaniel Holmes, 63, were found Thursday in their room at the Bahia Principe hotel at the resort Playa Nueva Romana, in the southeast coast of the island, The Dominican Today, a local newspaper, reported.
Sonya Jackson, Cynthia’s sister, told News4’s Shomari Stone that the U.S. Embassy confirmed the couple was found dead in the resort.
Day and Holmes, who according to relatives were engaged, had been staying at the vacation spot since May 25, The Dominican Today reported.

2. Hmmmmmmmmmm!

See across the globe companies have been replacing full time workers with contract workers.
Vetting is lax - attacks on visitors are on the up in many places.

3. What is going on in DR?

Is there actually a problem with increasing crime in DR or is the media just grabbing every DR story they can get?

On top of this and that woman that got beat up. One of the young ladies that is in our complex married a man from DR. When his dad passed he was beside himself getting his Aunt and Mom out of DR as quickly as possible. They were concerned for her safety with no man in the house.

Everyplace has crime...

5. So tragic. Toxic pesticides, perhaps?

I hope they can figure it out with an autopsy.

10. Then we'll just simply

have to disagree about our respective illusions of security.

and unarmed black men continue to be murdered..If you hadn't notice, America is getting close to Third World status, thanks to Orange dump..they lost any standing they had in the world...
I thought you were going to agree to disagree?

14. We have stayed at this Resort years ago.

Both times we were warned about leaving the Grounds without letting the Security People know. Add that time, the Security Guards were carrying AK's,but,no ammo clips. The one Dude was damn informative as to what to watch for and who were the bad Guy's Lurking. At that time,he was paid 75$ a week while House Keeping Persons were paid 150$ a week. When ever we left the Resort to go Exploring the area,we would slip the Guy a twenty and low and behold,we had a shadow all day long.

The Locals are so friggin impoverished and if they do not have a Resort Job,it is a struggle just to make it through the day. BTW,most of the Resorts on the Punta side are Italian owned.

15. Scary! So it's really that dangerous?

I would think that would be enough to scare tourists away for good. I know I wouldn't want to take the risk.

If the tourism industry is that strong, there should be something they could to to help the locals benefit from it and profit. They should all be able to share in the wealth that tourism brings.

16. When in a third world country,

when you leave these Resorts or your Hotel Safe Zones, your dress is casual and no flash or T&A advertising. Never carry a purse, belly bags are about the most, usually wore a money belt or baggy pants or shorts to hide any appearance of a wallet. Never wear any flash Jewelry, watched kids on bikes rip those off as they ride by only to hand it off to a adult down the street.

Like I have mentioned,it is third world, and if you are a work a day tourist, the locals pick up on that and will not bother you. Never once in some 15 years of going to the Caribbean have we ever had a threat, but,we just made sure to ask the right questions and not piss off the locals. BTW,there are daily so called excursions that are more than worth it. So much History and Culture, especially in Santa Domingo and along the Haiti border. Not to worry, the Bus Driver does have ammo in his 45.
