When the AG of the United States basically says, Trump is not the criminal, the people who are trying to bring him to justice are the criminals, you are heading for a serious constitutional crisis. Barr said this in an interview. He is not even trying to hide what is planning to do. Barr is attacking the justice system, the rule of law. It's unbelievable.
Barr lied about Muellers report. The report said Trump was guilty, Barr said he was not. He flat out lied. That was a big warning for what is heading our way. Barr is attacking Mueller and his work. Mueller is the enemy according to Barr. I think it is reasonable to believe Barr will try to obstruct all of Muellers investigations that are still active. I believe he will try to obstruct the courts.
Buckle up everyone, America is going to war over the rule of law, It's going to get ugly.
I feel sorry for Mueller. He just wanted to do his job and then go back to his old life. He is now on the front line of a constitutional crisis. He must be shocked by what Barr is doing. It's going to be interesting to see what Mueller does next.

(32,596 posts)... well actually he's the fourth if you count Flynn, Manafort and Michael Cohen. But Bill Barr deserves his own investigation and indictment/s separate from those intended for Chump.
No one is above the law. Not Bill Barr, not Donald Chump.

(3,813 posts)GHW Bush should have been prosecuted for Iran Contra.
GW Bush & Cheney should have been prosecuted for lying us into the Iraq War.
We need to begin the prosecution of 45, Pence, Barr, and Mnuchin simultaneously in one big impeachment inquiry into emoluments, nepotism, conspiracy w/ foreign dictators, perjury, obstruction of justice, etc. right now, while Democrats hold the House. "Looking forward" to 2020 while failing to address this very real crisis of the present moment is a recipe for exactly the failure you outline, fescuerescue.

(16,076 posts)on the idea that laws are a thing.
Agent Orange and his minions don't accept that idea. So, they don't feel they have to follow silly things like "norms" and "laws".
Is there any enforcement mechanism for this? Is there anyone who can go above the AG's head?
Turin_C3PO
(13,911 posts)if Barr defies a federal court order then the judge could try and send US Marshalls to arrest him. The Marshalls might refuse because technically they work for DOJ. Then the judge could deputize someone outside of the Executive branch to carry out an arrest.

Wow, laws really aren't a thing anymore.

(10,266 posts)Why wouldnt the Marshalls Service just work directly (and constitituionaly) for the Judicary?
I thought the only enforcement mechanism at the federal level runs soley through the Executive Branch...

(10,266 posts)And remedied in every State Constitution written...it's why you have a Local Sherriff...a County is a State-level JUDUCIAL DISTRICT, and the sherriff and their staff all work for the COURT.
at the federal level, the US Marshalls Service does the same job, but Constitutionally, they all have to work for the Executive Branch, because again, no provision was included for law or order enforcement EXCEPT through the Executive ...

(6,150 posts)Mueller has said he doesn't want to go farther than he has in his recent public statement, but I think he won't be able to sit on the sideline as the Attorney General decimates the rule of law.
First and foremost, Mueller is a patriot.
As Barr attacks the justice system, Mueller will have to make the most important choice of his life.
He will have to choose where his loyalty truly lies.
Will he defer to the office of the Attorney General, or stand up for the thousands of men and women in the justice department who are being defamed by an Attorney General who works for the President instead of the people.

(2,825 posts)Is it safe to assume (I know assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups) that Barr is a closet Nazi? Or is he just a run-of-the-mill racist bigot? Does Russia and Daddy Vladdy have something on him, too? All of the above?
The stench of this shitshow of an administration just keeps getting more and more rancid every fucking day! They are attempting to accomplish something that is very warped, very corrupt and very, very bad for this country. Somebody has to know something about what they're plotting. Someone out there has to be willing, very soon, to finally spell it out for us, once and for all.
One thing is definite. This country cannot continue like this much longer.
