1. So now what

Do we make excuses for Edwards or demand the DNC pull all support?

Let me say it another way:

Do we support women as human beings or are we going to treat women like cattle?

11. Louisiana appears to be stuck in a time warp.

The bad old days of "solid South" Democrats.

No speculation from me about how the DNC will handle it.

Anyone here in the womens' movement in Louisiana?

6. Good question

I'm sure the Blue No Matter Who and MATH contingents will be checking in any moment to explain all that for us.

Unless they totally ignore this thread that is. But surely they wouldn't do a thing like that...

9. IMO, no.

I don't think we need a far-Left litmus test, but if what we stand for is undermined by a politician then we need to let that person go. Let them be the conservatives they want to be. At least then they'd be honest.

10. That's where I'm at on this

Someone who votes with us on issues of less consequence and against us on the issues that matter the most is no friend, IMO. They needn't personally agree so long as they respect the rights of others. At the core of this and other issues is the notion that they can legislate their morality onto others.

3. How and why is he a Democrat?

And if he acts like a Republican by trashing women's bodily autonomy, can I say FUCK HIM the way I would if he were a Republican?

5. He's actually done some good things

In spite of this monstrosity. I fear that he's the best we could get in Louisiana. That's a low bar, I know...

7. He just negated every good thing he might have done.

But then women are always expendable - always.

13. No, it's not a low bar, it's no bar at all

Signing this into law makes him completely unacceptable as a Democrat.

We HAVE to have a set of standards that we will not compromise on or who are we as a Party?

Women are human beings with equal rights to anyone else.
I will never condone the subjugation of women nor will I be a political party that allows it.

This guy MUST be condemned immediately by the DNC and disowned as a Democrat or we risk jeopardizing our moral and ethical positions as a political party.

If we will sell out women for political gain, who else and what else are we willing to sell out?

8. This is so wrong for a Democrat. I don't care if someone is personally opposed to abortion.

That's their choice and they can for forth and multiply like bunnies. BUT . . . they need to keep their noses out of any decision another person might make. Democrats should cut off any funding to this guy if he can't respect opposing views and he needs to have a challenger next time around.
