Veterans (including wounded and KIA) are props for campaign videos and posters, backdrops for rallies, staged aircraft carrier landings (OK, those guys were active duty but same concept) and generally to be exploited for political purposes. When Trump says "our veterans" he means "my campaign props." That's it.

(31,979 posts)you would know how often she went to military hospitals to visit with, laugh with, and cry with, military families. She did that purely out of human compassion for our service members, not for a photo op, or a campaign ad. Concern for our veterans and their families was one of her main issues as First Lady. Of course we never heard about it much, because it was more popular to vilify her for a million other petty issues. Too bad the BeBest lady cant find her way over to Walter Reed to do that once in a while.

If you're a vet who happens to be Democrat, then the Republicans denigrate you and your service. See-
John Kerry
Max Cleland
Tammy Duckworth

(15,805 posts)Whenever they can latch onto some poor bankrupt soul who will parrot the party line, Republicans will exploit those outliers until they can't get anymore use out of them.
Republicans court anyone who will make their policies look good, they are the perfect frosting covering up the rotten, worm eaten cake underneath. Just look at the cast of supporting players that get dragged on stage at Fox news to recite their pro-republican testimonials. Take your pick of military figure, blacks or Latinos, women who rant against women's rights, even self proclaimed Democrats, they have plenty of token character actors and performance artists in their stable of useful idiots who will say anything for money.
