General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDoes it make any difference whether or not Mueller testifies?
In public or behind closed doors?
Haven't Trump and Barr already established that the Mueller report is over?
Haven't the Democrats already surrendered this issue?
"Democrats just did not like what Mueller said", they say.
Republicans have moved on from the Mueller report. They believe it cleared Trump, and Democrats have said nothing to dissuade them.
They are moving on to investigate the investigators.
Mueller is old news?

Mueller has credibility, is articulate, and as such, he is is the polar opposite of Trump.

(20,560 posts)but without being a pushy broad, for which at times I have a resemblance. 😉
It's a tad strange. Some close to me have been leaving me be. Mb they just occupied with stuff. Or they 'think' I'm doing not so badly.
Wish I wielded a magic wand to make this disappear.

(20,560 posts)I have no thing against strong men who wield their strength as per the Holy Writings that describe Christ.
Christ the Head. The male next representing Him in the capacity mirroring how He so loved His that He lay down His life. Then the female who was fashioned from the male's 'side'. Speaketh volumes.

(6,366 posts)A: Either.
Haven't Trump and Barr already established that the Mueller report is over?
A: They've falsely claimed that. Certainly not "established" it.
Haven't the Democrats already surrendered this issue?
A: No.
"Democrats just did not like what Mueller said", they say.
A: They say all kinds of crazy shit. What else is new?
Republicans have moved on from the Mueller report. They believe it cleared Trump, and Democrats have said nothing to dissuade them.
A: Republicans only wish the Mueller report were behind them. Democrats have said plenty that would dissuade sane people. But dissuade Republicans? Let's not hold our breath on that.
They are moving on to investigate the investigators.
A: They are moving on to overturn constitutional democracy and replace it with a police-state dictatorship. That must be resisted.
Mueller is old news?
A: Again: they wish.

(11,499 posts)his public testimony would be the most effective. His reasoning to testify in private as a way of 'avoiding a public, political spectacle' falls flat for me. The last 3 years has already been a public, political spectacle, a circus of no end.
That being said, short of the public testimony, the immediate release of his words and thoughts would be paramount. This is a man who spent 2 years in the muck of Donald Trump's odious legacy. The public needs to hear every word and have those words shouted from the rooftops. It makes no difference if Barr and Trump and the Republicans have moved on. There's a reason for that: their own complicity in damaging the country and installing an illegitimate president in the White House.
Democrats have not surrendered the issue; the investigations are ongoing, court decisions are being rendered and Trump continues to exhibit consciousness of guilt every day. As far as convincing Republicans? That's a fool's errand since their continuing complicity is threatened by Trump's exposure.
Mueller is old news only if Trump's treasonous behavior is old news. There's no true Democrat who believes that.

(14,118 posts)only mean that the truth that Robert Mueller can bring to the table is badly needed. It's a no-brainer, Mueller must testify! Subpoenas must be respected! Impeach! Whatever it takes to get rid of this Cabal of Corruption must get done!

(112,895 posts)They have just let them lay, it seems to me?
They could have said that Barr must not have read the Mueller report? Because we see something totally different than what he sees.
They could have said that we see multiple incidents of collusion, even if there was no definitive proof of conspiracy.
They could have said that Mr Barr was playing "partisan politics" by choosing to overlook the many instances of obstruction by Donald Trump.
They could have said that it is a "cover-up" when they refuse to release the entire document and when they refuse to let the witnesses in the report speak for themselves, even when under subpoena.
Democrats could have done better, in my opinion.

(9,282 posts)was expected from Mueller. The continued problem with Mueller is that anything he touches will continue to be clouded rather than the strong argument we want and need to make. Mueller is what he is and he is GOP.
So I am for any Mueller testimony to not be televised.
Impeachment should proceed using what can be useful from Mueller but using issues where strong and clear arguments for impeachment and conviction are evident.
Barr is a nightmare and needs to be addressed as well.

(20,672 posts)state that "I understand the position SC Mueller is in, but this is about the future of Democracy in the United States, and as such we must compel his testimony if it is not voluntary."
Unless there is something else we have not been told, that is the groundwork Nadler should be laying in the media.

(22,976 posts)As things stand now, Republicans found a way (dont they always?) to control and twist Muellers report to their advantage. Its all horseshit, but nevertheless...
If Mueller could quit being a wallflower for a few hours, he could set things right about his findings, and inform the American public what IS in FACT revealed and what IS NOT revealed in his report.
Itd be a huge service, but I dont think hell do it, for whatever piss-poor reason.

(1,706 posts)Congress needs the complete report not just a line here and there. But the conclusions are obvious Russia messed with our election and dump benefited. He then obstructed in a cover-up.

Was he forced to shut down his investigation early?
Did Mueller inform Barr today that he was going to make his statement?
What did Mueller think of Barr's lying about his report?
