In my opinion, Donald Trump would see impeachment as a blemish, somehow de-legitimizing his Presidency.
It would be similar to him having to admit that Russia helped him defeat Hillary.
It is his nature to try and confuse people by stating the opposite of everything that is going on in his life, indicating his inability to accept reality.

(48,962 posts)that concerns Trump. If SOTH Pelosi prematurely (i.e., now) commences impeachment, Trump has the time to attack, to neutralize, to make it part of his re-election "strategy" of being attacked. He wouldn't have so much time to dilute the impeachment impact next year.

(17,175 posts)There are a whole lot of things, outside Mueller's report that he can be impeached on, including the emoluments clause.
So, have hearings about each and every one of them. By the time that's over, it is next summer and he's running out of time to convince people that none of it is real.

(75,599 posts)Of course he doesn't want to be impeached. He's bluffing when he pretends to challenge Democrats to impeach him. The other day, I posted an essay about this, likening Trump to the fool that says, "Go ahead -- you hit me first." As a young man, I never, ever allowed such an opportunity to pass.

I watched his biographer or maybe it was one of the authors of one of his books, anyway, he agreed with you. He said that impeachment would be devastating to Trump. This guy spent a lot of time around Trump so he should know better than we do.
As far as bankruptcies go, Trump is proud of them because he made money off of them.

(2,434 posts)She's showing the country the forgone conclusion is Senate republicans will protect trump no matter what hearings reveal. So clearly if they vote not to convict it is political and nothing to do with justice or innocence. Bottom line is it shows them to be the assholes they are.

I suspect Trump doesn't care if he gets impeached - he has no shame and no sense of or concern about history - but he wants to control the timing. The sooner it happens, the better for him.
He'd get it out of the way well before the election, giving him plenty of time to throw a few hundred new distractions in the mix so that, by November 2020, the impeachment is a long ago memory. AND, doing it now would mean he'd be impeached with a lot less evidence and any attempt to hold him accountable for other or new wrongdoing would be curtailed, if not shut down altogether in the future.

(12,344 posts)Like all narcissists, he wants, above all else, to protect his ego. Everything else may be sacrificed in protection of that one thing. He doesn't want information to get out about him because of it may damage his ego, not because he fears jail or impeachment. He'd would like the Democrats to impeach him and fail to convict, as that would build his ego. He assumes they would fail because his ego won't let him think they could succeed. Even if he were convicted, he would be disappointed for a few days until he comes up with an ego-protecting myth, which inevitably would be "the Republicans were disloyal."
Understanding that it's all about ego and nothing else is the key to understanding Trump. Money, power and even total failure mean nothing to him except insofar as they affect his ego.
