The Way We Were

I have been giving a lot of thought lately about the way we felt about our country and the wonderful attitude of the American people during WWII. I was just a kid in first grade where we were so excited about purchasing little green minute man stamps in order to get a Savings Bond. We collected paper and scrap for sales to raise money for the war effort. We used little red tokens and stamps for rationed food; no hosiery for women, no meat, no gas, no butter. No butter? we invented Oleo. My Dad worked for the Blaw Knox Corp. manufacturing anti aircraft guns and submarine parts. When they rolled out their 100th gun there was a huge celebration. We were all in it together. I sat through many a black-out on my Mother's lap in a rocking chair while the lights were all turned off and black drapes pulled across the windows. A big treat was going to the Saturday movies with my Aunt to see the news about the war.
We loved America and hated the right wing monsters who were trying to take over the world.

And now, here we are. The monsters are in our halls of Congress, Britain is teetering on the brink of Brexit and Austria's government has collapsed. The world is in turmoil and who will save us? The monsters have bided their time and found their useful idiots. What are we going to do about it?

have forgotten what it is like to fight for their freedoms and rights. I also remember the Sixties where we were in the streets.

And our newly elected blue representatives will do the job we send them to Washington to do. We just need a majority in the Senate and a Democratic President.

In less than 2 years from now it will be done. Or we will be a Dictatorship.
