Barr's inquiry into the Trump-Russia inquiry is corruption eating itself

Barr's inquiry into the Trump-Russia inquiry is corruption eating itself
This investigation by the attorney general should scotch any illusion that Trump would be held in check by Washington’s institutions

What happens to a government when the man in control is a delusional conspiracy-theorist desperate to cover up his own corruption?

This is more than a rhetorical question, and we’re not just asking for a friend.

At this stage of the presidency (See: The Decline and Fall of the Empire), the corrosive effect of Donald Trump is decaying and degrading some of the most powerful institutions that represent the United States.

One of the most-repeated conceits at the start of the Trumpian epoch was that the culture of good government and the rule of law were so ingrained in Washington that public servants of sound mind would thwart the wingnut whims of a demagogue.

How quaint. Now we find ourselves in a country where the attorney general is combining forces with the entire intelligence community – the directors of the CIA, FBI and national intelligence – to investigate how the whole Russia investigation began.

Spoiler alert for all the spooks and prosecutors about to waste what’s left of their reputation: it was the Trump campaign.
There was this rather exhaustive report into the whole affair, along with 37 indictments and guilty pleas, which you don’t need a spy agency to discover. Perhaps someone at the FBI could dig up a copy of the work of its former director, Robert Mueller?

2. Gibbon's great thesis on the decline and fall of the Roman empire

was due mainly to a lack of civic virtue among its citizens and leaders. Sound familiar? Our country is so corrupt. We are corrupted by the insatiable lust for money, the insatiable blood thirst of the war machine to engage in never-ending war.

3. Donald Trump is a pustule of fascist disease breaking through.

But so have been the behaviors of Republicans in congress, massive election thefts around the nation, and the packing of courts with corrupt political operatives.

It’s understandable that people want an easy fix with only one person to get rid of, but it’s way past time to accept that THIS COULD NOT BE HAPPENING IF the Republican Party was not intensely corrupt and actively betraying their nation, with very grim goals for an end to our democracy and our future.

This is what conspiracy and attempted takeover of government from the inside looks like. Bernie Sanders and his followers who voted Republican or third party wanted a revolution? Well, the powers the Republican leadership is fronting for are doing their best to oblige with their own.

4. Is there any chance that Barr...

And the DOJ have tricked the president into supporting the investigation that will lead to his ouster?

A “self-impeachment” of sorts?

Just wondering.
