It's now official--my friend is now running for Congress in New Mexico

Valerie Plame, whose career with the CIA was ruined when Dick Cheney outed her as revenge for her husband refusing to lie about a State Department mission to Africa, retired to New Mexico to get the hell away from Washington. But she still wants to serve in some manner.

This decision wasn't taken lightly, but she decided she could do some good representing the part on NM that she settled in. Her IQ is probably higher than 98% of the rest of Congress (I put her up there with Pelosi, Schiff, a few others). I'm not sure if that's a plus or a minus these days! I have been in touch with her (told her to get a street address or P.O Box for contributions on her website!! Not everyone contributes by credit card), and her remark was just, "off we go!"

In case anyone needs a street address before it's on the website, just PM me, and I'll pass it on. With a check, the candidate nets 100% of the contribution. With Act Blue, it's only about 92%. I am VERY much looking forward to hearing a few speeches on the House floor tearing Republicans apart on intelligence issues speak talk about but have no idea what they are talking about. I'm betting Valerie's candidacy scares House Republicans. Her winning the seat would absolutely terrify them. Good!

I'll bet some serious Republican money will flow to her primary opponents. I hope it's not enough!

1. I will definitely vote for her.

I live in the 3rd Congressional district of New Mexico, currently served by Ben Ray Lujan.

2. They will try the old

"swift boat" tactics of yore. Money flows down more than one tributary.

Thank you DFW, she has had my support since the dark days of the bushit( it is possible to be more charitable, but, nah, justice delayed...) administration.

3. Having Valerie Plame in Congress would be tremendous... I'll be following her campaign

from nearby Colorado. The region has some really important races and very impressive Democratic candidates.

5. Wonderful! If she has a land address I will gladly send a small donation.

I admire both her and her husband a great deal.

7. I'd say Valerie's website is the best place to keep in touch with what's happening:

9. This is her campaign website

ValeriePlameforCongress.com

I don't know if she has had it modified to accommodate a street address yet, but I still have that if anyone wants it and can't find it. I just got back from Portugal, and it's almost midnight here, so I haven't been following the board much.

10. Sounds great! Best of luck to her...

She'd be a shoo-in for the Intel Committee.

11. Richard Armitage leaked her name not Cheney.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage acknowledged Thursday that he was the source who first revealed the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame to syndicated columnist Robert Novak back in 2003, touching off a federal investigation.

Armitage told the CBS Evening News that he did so inadvertently.

"I feel terrible," Armitage said. "Every day, I think, I let down the president. I let down the secretary of state. I let down my department, my family, and I also let down Mr. and Mrs. Wilson."

12. I've seen that before, and I don't buy it

I do not believe it was Armitage because I do not believe it was "inadvertent." And if it wasn't inadvertent, it was ordered by someone way higher up than Armitage.

He feels "terrible about it." Right. Just like Cheney, and Rumsfeld felt "terrible" about all the casualties in Iraq. If there's anything they felt terrible about, it was what happened to their poll numbers down the line. The only reason ANY of them might have regretted what they did to Valerie is because someone reminded someone that outing her was a Federal crime, and it led right to the White House. The big regret was that one of them had to take the fall for it. As usual with crooked Republican administrations, the ones taking the blame were not the perps.

14. I remember that

I hope that the tide is turning enough for Valerie to make it! Of course, she needs to win the nomination first, and her name recognition will wear off soon enough. But she is also very personable and very smart. I realize that neither is a requirement to be nominated for, and elected to, the Congress of the United States, but I'm hoping for the day when neither will be considered a hindrance.
