pretty well encapsulates the mid-late 60s. The RW, then, as now, would make themselves (and the military) "victims" to the anti-war protesters, with efforts to paint them as "Commies" and unpatriotic... Thus, culminating in campus protests and ultimately the horrific Kent State shootings.

So, I look at this, not with the innocence of the day as depicted, but with the sad knowledge of what was to come...

Were you alive during this time?

In 1973. I was the mother of a dead soldier asking why.

come around--and especially when some of the music I associate strongly with the period comes on...

We lived through a tormented period, but then I think of the kids of Columbine or Parkland or so many of today's horrific events and it does help put it into perspective.

I was very anti-war and anti-establishment from an early age.

But I never had to deal with random and senseless killing at my own school.

And the mom (me) refuses to stand. She crosses her legs, seated and holds up the 2 finger peace sign.

A lot of parents were pissed at the time.

Today's climate reminds me a lot of those times.

I got an "A" in theater class by the way. My teacher, Ms. Coffin (rest her soul) was a peace advocate.

Almost wish I had.

I went to law school and eventually worked in insurance, after some pro bono work for liberal causes.

But in community college I did star in our production of "Hair." And yes, we did take off all of our clothes during "Let The Sub Shine."

Everyone got their panties in a wad over that, too.

Local productions of HAIR now apparently exclude that part-- at least in my area.

We only did it last night. And we had audience participation which made it so much fun.
