Margaret & Helen:Abortion is not a dirty word and Planned Parenthood isn't a McDonald's and the GOP

Abortion is not a dirty word and Planned Parenthood isn’t a McDonald’s and the GOP can go F**K itself

Margaret honey, nothing pisses me off more than when a man has an opinion about something he knows nothing about. And one thing for damn sure a man knows nothing about is what’s in a woman’s mind and heart when she is making a decision about whether or not to terminate a pregnancy. It’s called an abortion. It’s not a dirty word. It’s legal. It’s a woman’s right. It’s personal. A woman can choose to have one or not. And damn it, there is no such thing as a post-birth abortion unless you’re talking about the death penalty (which is a whole nother GOP lie).

The fact that the GOP has a talking point about post-birth abortions tells you all you need to know about how stupid the GOP is and how stupid they think voters are. If you can’t make your case with the truth then do you really have a case? There is indeed something called a late-term abortion. It’s not pretty. It’s not happy. It’s usually the last choice, but it is a choice a woman sometimes makes. And if you knew anything about why a woman might have to make that choice, you would be questioning your faith in God before you would be questioning the choice of that woman.

Contrary to what our asshat of a President and his confederacy of dunces think, women don’t pull up to a Planned Parenthood and order up an abortion like it’s a Big Mac. No one at Planned Parenthood takes our request for a pregnancy test and tries to upsize us to an abortion and some fries. Women make this decision with a great deal of thought, prayer and consultation with our loved ones and our doctors.

I am an old woman. I don’t like the f-word. I didn’t use that word until the orange asshat arrived. But on this topic, you bet your sweet ass I’ll use it. FUCK YOU GOP for continuing to politicize this deeply personal decision that should be left between a woman and her doctor. Get your lies out of our government and get your politics out of our vaginas. And while you are at it, why don’t you get those children at the border out of those cages. I mean it. Really.

There's even a statue of Ignatius J. Reilly on Poydras Street, a posthumous tribute to John Kennedy Toole.

a PP clinic with abortion on her mind has to undergo a thorough private screening with a PP professional.. She is asked if she is certain about her decision, if anyone has coerced her into wanting an abortion, AND she is given information on other options other than abortion......... BEFORE she submits to one.

Any woman who appears hesitant and unsure about this is SENT HOME and asked to think about this and come back in two weeks.

Emotion causes the logic centers to shut down, which is why the GOP uses these horrific lies to keep their base afraid and angry. Even some people on the Democratic side of the argument become too emotionally aroused and go off on the "legal, but rare" kick which just stigmatizes the choice further.

Like Helen says, Abortion is not a dirty word. It is a choice for a woman to make about her life, her body, her health. I would imagine that it isn't a choice that is taken lightly. The point is, as a man, I cannot get pregnant and while there are some legal responsibilities that I have in supporting my offspring, we know how that often goes. My opinion on abortion in general is of little value. Obviously, if I am in a healthy relationship with a partner or spouse, the decision to get pregnant or what to do if there is a pregnancy should be happening as a part of that relationship, but again, I have no power over any woman's body, and I shouldn't.

The assumption that this is a "man" problem, and that we've locked up 100% of the female vote because of abortion rights, completely ignores political reality, and frankly has probably cost us more than one important race. I've lost track of the number of times I've heard someone ignorantly assume we automatically get all women's votes because of abortion, all Hispanic's votes because of immigration, etc. Yes, we have a majority in both cases. But there are millions in these demographics who take the exact opposite political stance than what we assume they would. And we have to fight for those votes, instead of assuming that genetalia or skin hue gives us an automatic vote.

I was attacked by an anti-choice woman at a Roe v Wade Rally in the '70's, for one small example. Many of us here have similar stories.

some of these anti abortion crazies say that I should have had an abortion. They see my kid as a taker of their tax money, and think that is why I had her. then I have many who believe I did something to her in the womb to make her handicapped in order to make out on all this 'free money' and 'free school'.

I have friends who have children with handicaps that go from slight handicaps to major handicaps. My friend with the most severely handicapped child is divorced so she bares all the responsibility for her care. She is NOT rolling in free money and has lost work because of the needs of her child. She loves this child so much and suffers because her child has so many problems.
