AA women are the base we should be listening to. They have been right in every election.

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the General Discussion forum).

They were right about Bill Clinton (think what the economy was like then and how you felt about your life); they were right about Al Gore (we likely would not have had an Iraq war and maybe not even a 9/11); they were right about Hillary Clinton (and we certainly would not have had the horrible person we now have in the WH). I feel they are now right about Joe Biden. Warren is my choice for the purpose of her policy positions. Biden is my choice for defeating Trump first.

1. I will happily vote for any of the leading Democrats

in the race if they win the nomination.

Joe needs to be educated on Net Neutrality, though, or that could hurt him with the youth vote. My daughter is a teenager and that's a big issue for them.

Another result of Gore having the election stolen in 2000 was the huge increase in the defense budget - it was already huge and we had a great military, but with 9/11 and Iraq, it was increased beyond sane levels.

2. Joe needs to work on his appeal to young kids

And by young I mean 18-22.

3. My daughter will be too young to vote next year

but, I know a lot of her friends will be and they seem to like Buttigieg quite a bit. Of course, that is just anecdotal on my part and is a sampling of upper middle class white, black and Asian kids.

7. I trust Joe Biden to put together a cabinet that will be able to fill

any of the areas over which he doesn't have a complete handle. The one thing Democrats can do is teamwork. We do not march in lock step with each other (like the Republicans do) but we do know the importance of teams and the work that they do!

9. I think he'll put together an excellent team

as well.

I'm hoping Preet Bharara for AG, or Sally Yates

10. Agree.

Joe needs to be educated on several matters. I trust that the vetting process will get him up to speed.

4. African American women have made the difference in many elections.

Last edited Tue Apr 30, 2019, 09:56 AM - Edit history (1)

Sen. Doug Jones won his Senate seat because of the votes of African American women. They are a powerful part of the electorate and having their vote is going to be essential for not just the person who wins the nomination but also on election day in November. If African American women turn out to vote I think we can get back The White House.

6. If they vote.

A new study co-authored by political science professors and a policy analyst from the think tank Demos finds that Donald Trump’s electoral college victory in November depended heavily on an increase in white voter turnout and an even bigger decrease in turnout among African-American voters—particularly in the key swing states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

Comparing data from the voter file vendor Catalist and the U.S. Census Bureau, the researchers concluded: “Without those shifts in turnout from various racial and ethnic groups, these pivotal states might have gone not to Trump but to Clinton — giving Clinton an electoral college victory.”

The study, published Monday in the Washington Post‘s Monkey Cage blog, found that between 2012 and 2016, white voter turnout jumped 2.4 percent nationally, while black voter turnout fell 4.7 percent.

The split was even more dramatic in the midwestern states that tipped the scales for Trump. In Ohio, black voter turnout dropped 7.5 percent; in Wisconsin, it declined 12.3 percent; and in Michigan, it was down 12.4 percent.

Edit: to be fair, a lot of demographic groups didn't show up to vote last time.

11. :) Give yourself a break? ALL of us who did were right

in every election, and I'm presuming that was your voting pattern too. Over 60 million last election, a sizable plurality of voters.

The Republican Party started changing into what they are long ago now, and since then doing anything but vote Democratic has increasingly not been an option for people who believe in equality and government that serves the people, not government served by the people.

Btw, our base is all who can be counted on to stand up when the time comes. The black power bloc is very important to our party, 6% of the electorate voting mostly monolithically in strong turnout means power, but it's the dependable vote not the skin color that defines a party's base.

United we stand.

12. I'm growing weary of reminding everyone that Hillary WON THE 2016 ELECTION!

But I'll persevere in pointing out the obvious that it's not the Democrat's efforts that are suspect in elections, it's the reich-wing corruption!
