I was deeply moved by the Rabbi's speech . . . and then he got to the part about Trump

and how wonderful Trump was in the phone call.

ON EDIT:

I was curious about the cowboy hatted mayor, Steve Vaus. I couldn't find a party designation anywhere, but I see on Open Secrets that the couple donations he's made (years ago) were to Republicans.

1. Exhibit A from the "You Had Me and then You Lost Me" file.

Maybe he hasn't had time to process WHY dipshits like this 19 year old Himmler are shooting up his place of worship?

**On edit** MSNBC didn't quickly cut away when he praised Mango Mussolini (a la Faux )

2. Must be a "conservative" rabbi. I can't fathom how any Jewish person

could support 45.

3. It's a Chabad synagogue, so it's at least loosely connected to the synagogue Jared belongs to. n/t

6. Chabbad which is Hasidic, so, he is Orthodox

Conservative Juadism is not conservative politically, for the most part.

7. The Poway Chabad synagogue is at least loosely connected to Jared's.

https://www.jta.org/2019/04/28/united-states/chabad-the-movement-whose-synagogue-was-targeted-in-the-poway-shooting-explained

Chabad operates as a loose network, and emissaries for the most part tend to work independently — responsible for their own programming, fundraising and priorities. But some Chabad rabbis have become connected to powerful people.

Berel Lazar, for instance, one of two chief rabbis of Russia, is an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Chabad ran a clandestine network of emissaries in the Soviet Union and has grown in Russia since the USSR’s collapse three decades ago.

And in Washington, D.C., Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump attend a Chabad synagogue. Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, has been involved with Chabad since he was a student at Harvard University.

9. I should have explained my point better

There are 3 main branches of Judaism in the US, orthodox, conservative and reform. 4 or 5, if reconstruction and renewal are counted. In that context, conservative Judaism is defining as a non orthodox branch of Judaism, which retains ( or conserves) most of traditional Jewish services and practices.

All of the non orthodox branches lean to the Democratic side. However, chabbad is Orthodox and as you say many are right wing.

4. Leave him alone

The man was just the victim of a horrible shooting, is still probably in shock and appreciated the president of the United States calling him.

Cut him some slack.

16. Good Lord!

It's a easy as pie to sit at home on your computer or phone and criticize a shooting victim on how his reaction to a president calling him after he had his finger shot off, a dear friend murdered and his synagogue shot up might negatively affect your politics.

It's easy, but it's not right.

11. ...

Maybe just once we can try to love everyone and leave the hate to those that feed off of it.

“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”

8. Here's the thing with Trump: he takes petty revenge on victims who call him out.Consider Puerto Rico

... Consider Khizr Khan's family, and others too numerous to mention. All sorts of courageous people who have told Trump just what kind of *hole he is, and I admire them for it. I would hope to be as brave if in their place.

I did not see the rabbi's statement, but I would not be too quick to judge on the single basis of his public "appreciation" of Trump's phone call. Might be very wrong about this guy, but if I were in his shoes I'd be careful, is all, and save further comment for later.

10. He's practicing what he preaches

That it is everyone’s duty to bring light to the darkness. I think he was doing exactly that.

And he’s probably right. The only thing that hatred brings out of Trump is more hatred from him. He feeds off hatred. He grows worse when he is hated. The Rabbi has a point.

13. A little about the cowboy hatted mayor

He wrote an anti gun control song in 2009 called "Come and take it".
Here are the first few lyrics:
"deep in the heart of texas, back in 1835
the folks of gonzales had freedom on their mind
it was all because of a cannon
that had kept their colony safe
but then general santa anna sent some mexican troops
to take the big gun away
you know what those colonists said?
come and take it if you want it!
come and take it if you think you can!
come and take it but we'll warn you
you'll have to pry it from our cold dead hands
we want the freedom that god gave us
so you best not cross that line
if you want this gun, you gotta come through us
and take it one shot at a time"

17. I just saw it (on a rerun I guess).

I agree, I wanted to puke when he gushed over how concerned and genuine the moron was. Then I remembered that old family friends in NY who are heavy duty Orthodox and they support him. I remember visiting in 1993 and they thought Clinton was not tough enough which surprised me.
