Time to go all in on impeachment?

What say you to blatant and widespread impeachment hearings...starting say June 2020.

You aren't going to get the Senate to convict, so expose Trump on every scandal and dirty secret he has.

It will only make Trump stronger.
Let's get the evidence out through the hearings and defeat him in 2020.

5. Absolutely. If this doesn't call for impeachment, then what does?

And don't give me that crap about it energizing Trump's base. It's irrelevant.

6. If we don't impeach there is a chance 45 will win again in

2020. Then the statute of limitations will end during his second term and all of this will have been for naught.

I don't think our democracy can survive that.

20. If he is impeached his crimes will become known to the average

American because the MSM will report on it much much more than they do now. Most people don't even know what is in the Mueller report because they don't follow these things that closely and are influenced by fake news including fake news by Russia.

An impeachment will bring information about his crimes to people who don't pay that much attention.

37. I don't think they are well known! I don't even know all of them

because I have not read the whole report or seen a summary of the whole.

Nixon's approval rating went down as congress started charges and people became aware of the extent of his transgressions.

All the right wing spin machines still spend their time talking about Hillary and Obama. I've seen so many people I went to high school with posting garbage that was obviously fed to them by Limbaughs and Hannitys and the rest.

28. Why do you think that???

45 is NOT popular. He is one of the most HATED presidents of all time!

What is your thought process when you say trump wins in 2020 if rethugs provide cover and acquit him despite a mountain of damning evidence????? Last I checked, Americans hate to see bullshit acquittals.

And have you considered what people will do in 2020 if democrats do nothing???

BTW-I'm not yelling at you specifically. I'm just confused by this stance which is held by a sizable portion of our elected democrats.

7. Impeachment now.

I'm sick and tired of Democrats acting so scared of their own shadow... if Obama did 1/10th of the crap that Trump has done, impeachment hearings would have started a long time ago. The party leadership needs to grow some spines and stand for what is right. Nixon was more popular than Trump before impeachment hearings.

If 55-60% of Americans believe that Trump should be impeached after the hearings, then impeachment will be a win for the democrats regardless of how the Senate votes.

21. We are missing a smoking gun like they had with Nixon (The Tapes)

What new was learned from the report? Most of the Obstruction stuff was well reported by the media
Yes now we have PROOF but #MAGA does not care about proof, their cult leader already told them it was FAKE NEWS.

You say support for impeaching needs to be 60%, ok Nixon's support did not start falling because of "impeachment hearing" it started dropping and dropping fast when they found a smoking gun. We are missing a smoking gun like they had with Nixon (The Tapes).

Plus support for impeachment is going the wrong way. In 2017 impeachment support was at 43% but last month support had fallen to 36%

If two years of media reports did not increase support for impeachment why do you think impeachment hearings will?

The Watergate break-in was June 17, 1972, the five burglars were caught and named the WH

DESPITE THAT, NIXON WON RE-ELECTION IN NOV 1972

WE NEED a smoking gun to convince people, anything less is just pissing in the wind

8. No, from start of Bill's Impeachment til his acquittal was around 15-16 months

It is not worth the gamble, 16 months puts us at Aug 2020. Trump will leave office Jan 2021. That's 5 months.

Is it worth risking another 48 months of Trump to shave of 5 months of his term?

He will be indicted Jan 20th 2021, he is going to jail. Between being "Individual 1", the obstruction of justice charges, and whatever else the other 14 cases find, Trump is going to jail and for a long time.

If impeachment back fires and he wins in 2020 he will run the clock out on all charges and server no time

I would not risk 4 more years of trump and no jail time just get rid of him 5 months early

14. Isn't it gambling leaving the election up to someone who accepted Russia's help?!?

How do we know he won't do that again in 2020?

Russia hacking into state and local electoral systems including DNC emails and Red Don used their information.

Why are people accepting he not going to use their work again ?!!?

18. You're making the assumption that impeachment improves popularity

The only reason impeachment didnít hurt Clintonís popularity was because the general consensus was that he didnít commit impeachable offenses. On the other hand, it will be clear as day to any non hardcore Trump supporter that heís crooked.

27. The process greatly weakened Nixon's popularity

Trying to only point to what his approval rating was the day before the first trial is missing the forest for the trees. Beyond that, if impeachment at the very least keeps Trump's approval rating the same, Democrats win in 2020.

The most important fact is that there simply has not been enough impeachments to use past impeachments as a crystal ball. Such a small sample size means that there is an inherently huge margin of error. Not to mention that the circumstances are very different.

22. It will rally the right

Pelosi knows what will happen if they go through impeachment. The 2020 election will be another close one. Impeachment proceedings will go into 2020 before the election. It will turn off some moderate Democrats and rally the right. Greater chance we'll lose the election.

So there's a trade-off. A failed impeachment that tells people what they already know now in exchange for a greater chance of losing the election?

Losing the election means 4 more years of Trump and a couple SCOTUS picks

25. There's absolutely no proof that impeaching Trump will make him more popular

Nixon was more popular than Trump before impeachment... beyond that, there simply haven't been enough impeachments in history to make any solid predictions. It's like watching two basketball games and then thinking you know enough information to predict the results of every basketball game in the future.

Democrats constantly trying to play 5th-dimensional chess is the reason why Republicans have seized as much power as they have. People are tired of being promised that you are going to do stuff when you get more power, they need to do their jobs now. If the Democrats properly present the case the Trump is corrupt as hell and should be impeached, they are not going to lose support regardless of how Republicans vote.

23. Nah. Start the process now, so the public can watch months and months

of public hearings in Congress. Remember the Watergate hearings? I do. I watched them pretty much non-stop, and then watched the news coverage later.

Hold those public hearings and expose it all. Maybe Trump will pull a Nixon.

26. Don't impeach and the Republicans will fill the airways

that the Democrats could not impeach Trump because he didn't do anything illegal. They will say that after reading the Mueller report, the Democrats realized what a great president Trump has been, that Trump was totally innocent. If the Democrats try to use anything in the Mueller report during the election. the Republicans will ask why, if they believe Trump was guilty of anything, why didn't the impeach him. If he is guilty of any crimes, impeach him or you are almost guaranteeing he will be reelected.

30. There have been hearings already,

Cohen comes to mind quickly. Gates flipped for the prosecution and what did the WH do?? Screamed liars, rats, etc, etc and filled the airwaves with that. How are more hearings going to be different? Seems to me it would continue to be the same game.
I feel like relying on the elections is "all eggs in one basket" type of thinking, why does it have to be a choice? Why not do both?

How about we let Congress concentrate on the impeachment proceedings, as I believe needs to happen,, and the rest of us do what we did last November and bust our butts to get the vote out and win the elections?

I just cannot wrap my thoughts around it has to be either or,,, I do not believe in the political fall out theme. Either the Democratic party acts like they go by all rules for the good of the country, or they don't.

I see alot of thoughts on both sides of this discussion. 1 point I see, rarely, if at all, from those who do not wish to start proceedings is that he did nothing wrong. So in that respect I feel we are all on same page.

I'm sorry ,I just cannot agree to not have impeachment proceedings simply because it may or may not hurt something in 18 months. That's political thinking and that is the R game when they don't even discuss SC nominations for a year.
