We are now into the third year of what must be the longest-running "Gish Gallop" in

recorded history. "Gish Gallop"is a technique, named after the creationist Duane Gish who employed it, whereby someone argues a cause by hurling as many different half-truths and no-truths into a very short space of time so that their opponent cannot hope to combat each point in real time. A simpler way of describing it is: shovelling bullshit so fast and in such huge quantities that the target of it is overwhelmed.

It is difficult not to feel like we are being suffocated with lie after lie after lie and immoral disgrace after immoral disgrace. I wonder if continuing to "discuss" the daily cascade of outrages has become the problem.

What, really, is left to discuss? Have we learned anything about Trump in the last 6 months that we did not already know?

It seems to me that we know with absolute certainty that Trump is totally and irredeemably incompetent.

We know that he is steadily destroying our government and that things are getting worse with each passing day.

We know that everyone working for or with Trump, most assuredly including Pence, is, by that fact, disqualified from serving in any governmental position.

We know that only the threat of losing their own individual fortunes and power will ever cause Republiicans in the Senate to vote to convict Trump if he is impeached.

We know there are considerably more of us than them.

We know that "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing."

It is time, IMHO, to stop obsessing about how rotten Trump is and concentrate on "convincing" the Republican Senators that pissing off Trump isn't going to be nearly as harmful to them, personally, as continuing to support him. Nonviolent civil disobedience, embarrassing opposition research, organized "greeting parties" to confront them each time they appear in public---all this in addition to recruiting, funding and working to elect Democrats to their seats.

"That's a lot", you say? There are a lot of us. If we focus our time and effort on getting rid of Trump instead of "discussing" WHY we should get rid of him, we might be surprised at what could be accomplished.

I don't have the resources or contacts to organize it myself, but we SHOULD clog the streets of DC and the Mall one Saturday in May---the 25th, say. And, maybe we should find out what a tent city---a la Occupy---would look like near the reflecting pool. If we stay "nice", we're gonna get run over.

Got my asbestos suit on, so flame away.

3. Everything you say is so obviously true to me

But it appears that nobody with the resources that neither you nor I have is willing to do a damn thing.

4. A "Teapot Dome" scale scandal every 24-48 hours

When I was in high school, a history class might spend a day discussing the 1920's "Teapot Dome" scandal, which at that time one of the worst political scandals in U.S. History (Watergate was a "current event" ).

Now, we are seeing multiple equivalents and far worse scandals every week - sometimes more than one per day.

How will future history books condense this much corruption, immorality, abuse of power, bigotry, cowardness, and incompetence into a few pages? It's not just the worst, it is worse than all previous efforts combined. You could visit a quadrillion parallel universes and not find another United States that sank this low.

5. Point out that Trump is totally corrupt, and any supporting senator wants to join the corruption?

I agree that we need pressure on Republican senators, who need to fear they won't get re-elected. So in addition to any personal failings they have, paint them as grifters who are defending Trump only because they want a position in his entourage so they can make money off it too. There's such a turnover of Trump officials (often due to corruption) that it's plausible that any sufficiently loyal senator will get a cabinet job or similar.

6. I was wondering how this approach would go over in 2020:

Whoever the Democratic candidate is just refuses to debate Trump because he is a sociopathic liar. When the media begs for debates (ratings above all) they are given ultimatums such as on the spot fact checking and instant reporting of the results of the fact check.
It's time to play the Trump machine against itself.

Just like his attorneys wouldn't allow him to talk to Mueller because they knew he would perjure himself, we know he will lie his ass off in a debate.
Use it!
