Why Democrats Are Quiet on Immigration
April 10, 2019 at 6:41 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Playbook: “If you are a Democrat, and you’re watching President Trump fumble around with immigration policy, there is only one thing to do that makes sense: nothing. The president and his allies are providing Democrats plenty of fodder as they enter day four of massive upheaval at the Department of Homeland Security with seemingly no plan to deal with asylum-seekers on the U.S.-Mexico border. While some might want Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to take advantage of the chaos, in reality, sitting on their hands is the only sound political strategy at the moment. As for the 2020 candidates, what’s the upside of weighing in?”

“There’s a political truism that seems to fit quite well here: Never get in the way of your opponent when he’s making a mistake.

Strategy unless you care about KIDS IN CAGES!

A great strategy to get yourself reelected. Less good for actually, you know, helping people.

Elections have taken over as everyone's top priority. Wasn't that way 50 years ago.

an election cycle.

The day after each election, they begin posturing for the next one.

IN the case of the other side, it means zero cooperation. Ever.

For our side, it means being conciliatory toward people who will never, ever cooperate.

Trump wants to put children in cages and separate them from their families.

There is a moral imperative to prevent that from happening.

Introduce legislation preventing religion based discrimination in immigration. These actions show where Dems stand and what will happen if they win in 2020.

15. Actually Democrats in the Senate passed a comprehensive immigration Bill,

passed it with bipartisan support. John Boehner was afraid of the Tea Party, now rebranded as the Freedumb Caucus, so he never brought the Senate Bill to the floor of the House for a vote.

We had a bill, it took 13 years to become a citizen, had to learn English, had to move to the back of the line, had to pass the citizenship test, no criminal record. Democrats did do something about immigration, Republicans blocked it.

Don't get in the way of Trump while he's making mistakes...

Trump was making mistakes daily, sometimes multiple mistakes. But, he got media coverage and he drove the narrative.

so, when the fake "email" scandal came to light, it was that "one" scandal from Clinton versus 10-15 scandals a week from Trump and the one scandal from Clinton counterbalanced EVERY scandal from Trump.
