When faced with the prospect of serving hard jail time as a result of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to get your kids into the party school of their choice, as well as the demise of a successful career playing an antiques dealer who solves mysteries, most people would probably keep their heads down and try to avoid attracting attention as much as possible. Most people, however, arent Aunt Becky.
On Wednesday, actress Lori Loughlin, who is best known for portraying Rebecca Becky Donaldson on the beloved 1990s sitcom Full House (and on the recent reboot Fuller House) seemed blissfully unaware of her dire legal circumstances as she signed autographs for fans outside a Boston courthouse. Clad in a camel hair coat, a grey sweater, and oversized black-rimmed glasses, Loughlin was all smiles as she posed with fans, with some supporters shouting, Free Aunt Becky and Pay my tuition. (Reports that she responded by giving a thumbs-up and saying, You got it, dude are unconfirmed at this time.)
Loughlin is accused of paying $500,000 to college admissions scam mastermind Rick Singer to get her daughters into the University of Southern California by falsely claiming that they were crew athletes, despite the fact that neither of them had ever rowed crew. She faces charges of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud and a maximum of five years in prison. She is one of 50 people charged in connection with the scandal.
On social media, the response to Loughlins behavior was fairly split: While some viewed her sunny demeanor as inappropriate given the circumstances, others praised her iconic courthouse look (or lewk as some fashionistas might prefer) and unflappably cheery persona. The positive comments echoed those in support of Anna Delvey, the so-called Soho Grifter who also made headlines when she appeared in court last week wearing a low-cut Miu Miu dress and Celine glasses.

I'm just totally toasted that the people who most need to be convicted and put away will most likely get away with never seeing the inside of a cell.

(63,221 posts)She has been here in Boston parading around like some kind of celebrity hero. She obviously did not learn her lesson.
I hope she does end up doing time. Anything to wipe that smirk off her face. She is the perfect example of rich, white privilege.

(8,419 posts)She has also been coached to act this way. No apologies, act like you are out for a stroll. Now as an ASU grad who had to work my way through school. I am focused on her dickhead husband. I entered school as a skinny six foot two kid at 160 pounds. Left at 140 pounds. Earned the nickname Ghandi. I was really tan and really skinny. The Ghandi comparisons end there. He is a straight up asshole.

(50,528 posts)My brother is a Trump fellator (who is also a former Marine, and the recent Camp Lejeune scandal hasn't turned him off Trump one iota) who's been writing Facebook posts claiming that if Lori Loughner did it, it was only to "get her daughter into a good school." He wouldn't be doing that if Loughner was anything but a Trumpist.

(296,821 posts)But, she also lost her job on When Calls The Heart on Hallmark.. where she had a starring role for 5 Seasons.
That's the show I watch.. now the writers have to "retool" and write out Abigail Stanton.
'When Calls the Heart' EP Brian Bird Thanks Fans for 'Continuing Patience' Following Lori Loughlin Scandal
Hope is back in the valley!
The stars and producers of When Calls the Heart have taken to social media in recent days to tease the return of the beloved drama -- following Hallmark Channel's decision to pull season six episodes after star Lori Loughlin was arrested as part of the recent college admissions scandal.
On Monday, the show's official Instagram account shared an idyllic photo from the Vancouver set and an update from executive producer Brian Bird. "When spring brings hope, #Hearties. What Hope Valley looked like at the crack of dawn today," the caption reads. "Thanks for your continuing patience, and never lose heart. Keep watching and waiting for news of the return of Season 6 of When Calls the Heart!"

Yeah, I cried and cried and cried about Jack. My guilty pleasure. Shows I like are like therapy for me.. so no shame!
I love it set in Canada around the turn of the 20th Century.

(29,670 posts)My mom is also a fan.
I know the author writes Christian romance but I can't help it-totally guilty pleasure. Seeing Josie Bissett and Jack Wagner makes me think of a polite Melrose Place, lol. The actor playing Henry Gower is also on Riverdale,my daughter's guilty pleasure.
Jack was sad but they have a baby now. And I saw on a Twitter feed where the dog isn't on the show because he passed away irl. That also made me sad.

(296,821 posts)RIP!
Spoiler Alert!
Yeah, for some reason the "Christian" part doesn't bother me in this show.. I think because the rest of it is so interesting to me. I really liked the Romance part between Jack and Elizabeth. And, then Jack wanted to leave the show.
I watch Riverdale, too! And, it just had an actor, Luke Perry, who passed on .. so they had to delay and make some changes, too.
It will be interesting to see what they do about Abigail's part. In one of those article's about it.. they had a little quiz asking what the viewers wanted. I said "Write her out of the show" Another choice was recast the part.. I think that had the most votes.
So we shall see.. xmas

(937 posts)Her kids were not at a party school. A party school would, at most, be a 5 figure bribe.

Also identify what would be a party school. Examples would be helpful

(5,812 posts)Those are the West Coast party schools. The have been the rivals for the title of biggest party school since the 1960s. USC a party school? Only if you are into catered events.

(5,812 posts)I got in many, many years ago. And from personal experience, I can tell you it was a constant contest between UCSB and San Diego state to see who won.
UCSB won with the "yard" contest. Had nothing to do with greenery or gardening...it had to do with making the outfit for BOTH you and your date out of one yard of fabric.
And...I graduated with honors. It takes know-how to party hardy!
Then there was the Senova Beach RF...

(56,828 posts)west coast college tour for my daughter, who is a junior.
USC and UCLA are definitely not party schools - both are outstanding colleges with rigorous academics. I'm sure you can find parties if you wanted - they're in LA and there are 40,000+ kids at each school after all - but, you definitely need to be very good to get into either school and to succeed there.
My daughter thought UCSB was like a summer camp.
Disappointed in UCSD and thought UCI was charming. (The UCI tour guide captured the spirit well when he said "we think we're cool, but we're not."
(We didn't have time to go to northern California to see Berkeley...)

(11,122 posts)I think it is okay for her to stay out of jail. And no fine going to trump's government. I think she should have to pay full ride for 25 kids who actually got into the school but couldn't afford to pay.
It's not the cheating to get in that is the problem. It is the out of place cost.

(4,448 posts)We all do this, we do it all the time. We make a determination about famous peoples emotions. In truth we have no ideal.
You really cannot judge how an actor feels, when they are in public. THAT'S THEIR JOB - to emote emotions. Same thing with politicians. There was another actor who committed a crime in Chicago recently. He was emoting like crazy on TV and he seemed genuine. We later learned he was playing everyone, including the Chicago police.
LL has made a VERY good living emoting emotions.
Having said that. She's not going to jail. It's not a violent crime. She's famous and wealthy. That's more than enough to escape.
She will cut a very good deal. Worst that will happen is that she'll pay a big fine...or maybe give up her bail money.

(32,640 posts)The photogenic women seem to be the only ones that are attracting any attention, and are drawing the most scorn.
As always, what they are wearing is scrutinized as being wrong. As if that's what they are being charged with, when its actually part of their job to look "castable" at all times in front of a camera. God help them if they are ever caught without makeup or in normcore.
I'm not defending her, but the double standards here are astounding. Where are the photos of her husband, who has also been charged?
Where were the comments on what Michael Cohen was wearing?

(4,448 posts)We seem to be only focusing only 1 or 2 bribers. There are plenty more.
Also, barely a word about the people who accepted the bribes. In my opinion, the takers of bribes committed the bigger crime. (I know opinions will vary on that)
