New York State indictments of the Trump organization, which is Trump and his kids.

We already know Trump has been named in the Cohen charges. The attorney generals office is investigating. The manhattan office is investigating. They are looking at bank and tax fraud. Trump cannot touch those investigations.

Mueller handed off investigations to SDNY. Trump can attempt to obstruct that office but it will not work. SDNY would not put up with that bullshit. Also those investigations have been going on for months. The train has left the station, it's too late to stop it.

Trump and his kids could be looking at the same type of charges Manafort faced. Bank and tax fraud. You don't get to pay a fine and walk away on those charges.

The question is, when and in what way will they bring those charges forward.

SDNY is the US Attorney's office in New York City (Manhattan); those are FEDERAL, DOJ, prosecutors.

NYAG is the New York (State) Attorney General's office; that's the state's top prosecutor and her staff.

NYCDA is the New York County District Attorney's office (Manhattan); that's the top prosecutor in the County where Trump lives and does business.

Very different agencies and jurisdictions, but they can all go after fraud, etc.

Don't confuse them.

And there are no federal pardons for crimes prosecuted under state law, whether by the NYAG or the NYCDA (or for that matter, the King's, Queen's, Bronx, or Staten Island county DA's offices)...

SDNY is really in an interesting position at the moment; the current US Attny for SDNY is Geoffrey Berman, who was appointed on an interim basis by Jeff Sessions when Sessions was AG; Berman was never nominated for the post by the Trump Administration, but the JUDGES of the SDNY made his appointment in full, acting in their capabilities as such - essentially, he has the position on the authority of the judges, until or unless the Trump Administration names someone else - they haven't yet.

To make it even more interesting, Berman is recused from the Trump/Cohen case because he worked for the Trump Campaign at one point; the deputy AG, Robert S. Khuzami, has overseen that effort. Khuzami has an impressive record, but, as almost everyone in these circles does, has a share of revolving door issues.

At this point, I'm not ready to call anything a whitewash.

Yet...

Berman was in private practice from the mid-1990s untl his current appointment(s), from what I can see:

[link:https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/14/nyregion/us-attorney-candidate-manhattan-geoffrey-berman.html|]

And he's recused from Trump/Cohen.

Not really following your comment re Berman being fired by Obama.

They got Cohen, which suggests a level of independence that belies a simple whitewash, and Cohen leads to a number of other people, DJT jr. and Kushner, in particular.

Which being said, suggests that Berman a) doesn't have an obvious axe to grind, and b) recused for the right reasons.

Which in turn, suggests the fat lady has yet to sing.

Answer:
The (Acting) US Attorney for the SDNY is Geoffrey Berman. He was first appointed to the US Attorney's office during the George HW Bush administration. And the SDNY answers to the DoJ -- meaning the Attorney General.

According to the NYT profile and some other material on-line, Berman was in private practice at Latham & Watkins and then Greenberg Tauring, in New York and New Jersey, from 1994 to 2018.

When was he fired by President Obama, again? And from what?
