4. What I hate is posting something chiding a typo in someone's post.

Then having someone point out the typo in mine. It happened to me this morning (not for the first time).

7. Minor typos

or the occasional grammar slip are no biggie, but people post outrageously illiterate screeds here occasionally and still expect to be taken seriously.

If youíre going to punctuate your sentences with multiple commas where you want periods,,, or use six or seven dots for an ellipsis........ or use an apostrophe for a pluralís,,, ........ youíre going to look silly and undermine your argument.

15. Nonsense.

Look at surrounding posts; is anyone else using commas in strings to end thoughts? Are their posts cut into manageable chunks by paragraph breaks or are they unreadable walls of unbroken text? Are they averaging fifteen dots per ellipsis?

If the answer to those questions is no, then you merely need to follow suit. Donít create your own unique rules for punctuation and then exprect me to read without scoffing.

Iím not asking that we all post as though we are Gore Vidal or Harlan Ellison (Iím barely able to express myself better than a twelve-year-old at the best of times) but a minimum standard isnít an unreasonable request.

14. Very true. Typos aren't an issue, really. We all make them,

especially if we rely on Autocorrect on our mobile devices.

One error that frequently occurs, however, is misspelling a prominent person's name in the title of a post. Very often, that person's name is correctly spelled in an excerpted quote in that post. I find that to be very troublesome, since Google actively spiders DU posts, which can then appear near the top of Google search results. If a name is misspelled, it might not be noticed by Google, but it will surely be noticed by DUers.

Any poster can edit their own post after it has been published on DU. It's a great idea to proofread your post immediately after it appears in a thread. Once you click or tap "Post my reply," the next thing you see will be your post. Why not review it right then and make any corrections that are needed immediately? If you misspelled someone's name, and see it correctly spelled in the body of your post, please fix it.

Thanks.

12. May I point out that

many folks are posting on the run from mobile devices that use autocorrect and sometimes the AI overrides even the best of intentions. We all prefer perfect spelling and perfect grammar, however should we all wait until conditions are absolutely ideal to share our thoughts and opiions?

People make errors and mistakes, at last report we are all human.
