Abortion is not a dirty word and Planned Parenthood isnít a McDonaldís and the GOP can go F**K itself

Margaret honey, nothing pisses me off more than when a man has an opinion about something he knows nothing about. And one thing for damn sure a man knows nothing about is whatís in a womanís mind and heart when she is making a decision about whether or not to terminate a pregnancy. Itís called an abortion. Itís not a dirty word. Itís legal. Itís a womanís right. Itís personal. A woman can choose to have one or not. And damn it, there is no such thing as a post-birth abortion unless youíre talking about the death penalty (which is a whole nother GOP lie).

The fact that the GOP has a talking point about post-birth abortions tells you all you need to know about how stupid the GOP is and how stupid they think voters are. If you canít make your case with the truth then do you really have a case? There is indeed something called a late-term abortion. Itís not pretty. Itís not happy. Itís usually the last choice, but it is a choice a woman sometimes makes. And if you knew anything about why a woman might have to make that choice, you would be questioning your faith in God before you would be questioning the choice of that woman.

Contrary to what our asshat of a President and his confederacy of dunces think, women donít pull up to a Planned Parenthood and order up an abortion like itís a Big Mac. No one at Planned Parenthood takes our request for a pregnancy test and tries to upsize us to an abortion and some fries. Women make this decision with a great deal of thought, prayer and consultation with our loved ones and our doctors.

I am an old woman. I donít like the f-word. I didnít use that word until the orange asshat arrived. But on this topic, you bet your sweet ass Iíll use it. FUCK YOU GOP for continuing to politicize this deeply personal decision that should be left between a woman and her doctor. Get your lies out of our government and get your politics out of our vaginas. And while you are at it, why donít you get those children at the border out of those cages. I mean it. Really.

1. I have a relative who just got a medical abortion through Planned Parenthood

This relative has a separate medical issue that slightly complicated things. Planned Parenthood worked through it. This relative has one child, and is desperately leaving an abusive husband. We are helping.

She went for the follow-up appointment yesterday, to make sure the medication worked. It did. She has found an apartment, has a supportive job. She is on her way. She is, for the first time in months, hopeful and happy.

Contrast that to being unable to obtain an abortion, being forced into continuing the pregnancy, while having a toddler, and an abusive husband. What would the outcome for the her? For her child?

There are thousands of these stories everyday. Thank you Planned Parenthood.

6. I don't want to get banned for saying this, and I totally understand how and why we have our stand

on abortion, and I totally support it, but...if somehow, magically, it could just disappear, I think Dems would win almost every single national election. I know a lot of people who would otherwise vote Democratic but who put abortion first and foremost when they choose a candidate.
And here is what one of them told me the reason is:
They are frozen with fear that when Jesus comes back, he will be aborted.

12. Have you seen the protest signs from these idjits?Telling the reader that their mother could have...

...aborted them? That "the selfish woman plays/her innocent baby pays." That even pregnancy-by-rape is (their) god's plan?

All I can say is they don't think much of women. We're just dumb cows to be bred by any passing animal, our only responsibility to pop out a kid that no one else will help us feed and educate, and take the blame for the outcome.

They really think Jesus could be aborted when he comes back? They don't think much of the next Holy Mother, do they? Mary knew she was carrying their god's child from the moment of the Annunciation. Proving I know their Bible better than they do.

As to your personal qualms -- it all comes down to this: women are moral agents with the right of free will. Either you believe that or you don't.

If abortion were to "magically disappear," those people still would not vote for Democrats. They. Will. Not. They have swallowed the lies for too many years. They think women are just sluts who will use contraception to sleep around and not be punished by getting pregnant. See how that works? Because the same people who want to outlaw all abortions also want to outlaw nearly all contraceptives.

Again as to your personal qualms -- I am 71 and took a long time to come to terms with abortion, despite having supported Planned Parenthood for 50 years. I never needed their contraceptive or other services, but it seemed clear to me even then that anyone who wants the abortion rate to fall would support sex education and family planning services.

I finally came to terms with the fact of abortion and now refer to it this way: I support the full range of women's health care. Period.

Abortion exists in all times and all places. Where men try to stamp it out, desperate women die. The most telling fact of all is this: the anti-choice fanatics in America are trying to outlaw contraceptives as well, by lying and redefining them as abortifacients.

Texas has only one or two women's clinics left in their very large state. Their maternal mortality rate is now at 3rd world levels.

As Helen Philpot, a wise old lady, says: "And if you knew anything about why a woman might have to make that choice, you would be questioning your faith in God before you would be questioning the choice of that woman."

13. that's last part is funny

They are frozen with fear that when Jesus comes back, he will be aborted.

Tell them they must not have very much faith in god if they think he'd let that happen and ask what would stop him from just sending jesus back again to be born by a mother who wouldn't abort

16. I wish dems would just stop discussing it

and when asked a question, answer this: ďThis is between a woman and her doctor. Government cannot infringe on the constitutional rights of citizens so my views on this are irrelevant. End of discussion.Ē

Any arguments on ďviolating the rights of the unbornĒ are irrelevant because the unborn is part of the pregnant woman and fall under her jurisdiction. The constitution cannot make the distinction by body parts.

All right wing arguments saying that abortion is murder cannot pass rational basis in court unless a woman can be prosecuted for murder for this. They sure donít advocate that: a person cannot be prosecuted for Ďmurderingí their own body parts.

I am not aware of very late term abortions. I bet those happen only when a woman is told by doctors she would die by giving birth or the baby will die immidiately upon borth due to certain medical conditions. The argument here is that if a baby can healthy survive outside of womanís body (very late term) and itís safe for the woman to give birth, then there can be a legislation passed while still compliant with Roe v Wade.

23. In fact wingnuts want to follow the lead of 3rd world & autocratic nations, where women ...

... DO get charged with murder not only for abortion but for miscarriage. Seriously.

One reason I finally started being blunt about supporting abortion is because I have been following this issue for so long. There are fanatics in this country -- and they don't love fetuses, they just despise women.

21. Tell them that Jesus has probably already been aborted anyway,

so there's no need to worry about it anymore. The virgin who got pregnant with him ended up in a mental health facility and they put her on drugs that caused a spontaneous abortion.

24. And if Democrats adopted white supremacy, they'd win every election

You are missing the point - the right for women to control their own bodies is part of the Democratic platform BECAUSE it is a basic right. Giving it up might win elections but it would undermine every principal that the Democratic Party stands for.

For the last fifty years Republicans have done everything they can to reduce access to the very things that have LOWERED the number of abortions in this country. They cut sex education, deny access to birth control, and spread LIES about the entire situation.

If Democrats suddenly jumped on the anti-abortion bandwagon, the Republican Party would find some other way to vilify the Democratic Party and lie their asses off to convince their Southern Baptist sheep that Democrats are still evil.

As a woman raised in the South from a long line of Southern Baptist preachers (an x? great grandfather, Charles Crow, was the first fucking president of the Alabama Baptist Convention) I consider that abandoning our principals to cater to the whacko religious right would just make us as venal and corrupt as the Republicans have become.

FUCK that idea!

PS - it was those Southern Baptist preachers who made me examine my beliefs and LEAVE religion behind. They were as corrupt nearly two hundred years ago as they and the Republicans are now, and the corruption extended into my uncle's generation and apparently to now, if the headlines about Baptist youth leaders sexually abusing young children are to be believed.

27. If you were raised in the South you'd know those Dems DID adopt white supremacy and DID win

almost EVERY Southern election for 100 years.
But thatís far from my point. My point is, as Democrats we have peopleís and the countryís best interests in mind with health care, financial security, racial and gender equality, and on and on, but we also sometimes just canít understand why people who would totally benefit from it would just kick it all to the curb, and vote against their own well being, over a single issue.

28. Yes I remember those days of the Dixicrats

And I remember how John F. Kennedy and his brother Bobby paid attention to the leaders like Martin Luther King Jr to change the course of this country and the Democratic Party away from that type of hatred. And how Lyndon Johnson predicted that the Civil Rights Act would cost the Democratic Party for decades to come.

Your point is that you want the Democratic Party to kick WOMEN to the curb and ignore our rights. Women do NOT want to go back to the days when average women could not control their bodies. I am old enough to remember when women had to get permission from their husbands to get birth control and most men would not use condoms. Women who got pregnant had to carry the unwanted babies (unless they were rich or from influential families) and if they were unmarried it was their fault and they carried the stigma for the rest of their lives.

I also remember when Roe v. Wade came down and women were given control over their bodies. I also KNOW that birth control is NEVER 100% effective so even if every woman who didn't want to get pregnant could get it there would still be unwanted pregnancies. I know that even in WANTED pregnancies there are situations in which an abortion is needed due to the un-viability of the fetus or the health of the women - all of which the Republicans want to deny and that you seem to want the Democratic Party to join in denying.

If the Democratic Party goes the way of the Republican Party in this issue there will be a LOT of people, not just women but men who care about women and their rights, that will leave it. I'd say there are a lot of more those than of the religious whack jobs you cite that might possibly vote Democratic if we abandon women and throw their rights to the curb.

This is as important issue to many - and not just women - as civil rights were in the 1960s. People were dying then and women are dying NOW because of the denial and limited access to birth control and abortion.

Abandoning women's rights would cost the Democratic Party MORE than the Civil Rights Act did and gain us NOTHING.

FUCK THAT SHIT.

Numbers 5:11-31 defines the test for an unfaithful wife and gives a recipe for "bitter waters" (which would cause an abortion).

It *is* the only place in the Bible where abortion is mentioned.

17. it's a Confederacy of evil

The evil is promoted by the right wing propaganda machine and adopted by the cult. Whatever it takes to get nazis, white supremacists, racists, misogynists, conspiracy nut-jobs, and the rest of the dregs of society to vote as a bloc to assist the sociopath oligarch gang, that's what gets promoted.

Attacking abortion gets the fundaMENTAList religious nutcases to vote for the oligarch party, regardless of any damage inflicted on anyone else and regardless of damage inflicted on the entire planet.
