4. We need it to be more purple first.

Went to Romney by 2 percent in 2012, Trump won it by 4 2016, and Tillis won in 2014.

6. Interesting numbers.

You had some real anomalies in 2012 and especially in 2014. NC 9 was your outlier in 2016 and in 2014 you had a lousy turnout by the Dems.

5. Gotta sort out the gerrymandered districts...

NC is purple. Evenly split Repuke and Democratic. Tillis will have a headwind to fight against in 2020. It would be nice for Democrats to have him primaries and have a Mark Meadows type person as the senatorial candidate.

7. Saw that Meadows District Map.

Looks like Sean Duffey's map in Wisconsin. When your District skips over whole Counties, ouch. Or like Duffey's,individual Houses are put in another district within the same Neighborhood in one Town.

33. Well,Dave Obe

said this would happen . Duffy is one nasty little Prick. And that District before Gerrymandering was some what liberal. So much Poverty, and when your major industry is a Casino, ouch.

Read about the Point Campus being shoved into a another District.

The Town I noticed the real evidence was Chippewa Falls. We have acquaintances in a different District as the neighbors next door. Being Dems,,they were pushed into the neighboring District . Jake Leinenkugel needed protection from his workers.

3. I'm sure Nate Silver on 538 will instantly move the odds 20%

I have no idea how this knee jerk reaction stuff is so popular. It reminds me of the people who wanted to believe the felon voting issue would immediately move Florida into our camp by wide margin.

Power ratings. Think power ratings. It is a sports term but applies well everywhere. Power ratings move in glacial fashion. When a team loses by 20 points as a 10 point favorite the power rating does not plunge. It might move downward 1 or 2 points. They would still be favored over the same team if the game was played the following weekend.

9. I heard Tillis say that Trump was willing to give power back to Congress.

My thought was... Hey North Carolina!!! Your Senator just bought the Brooklyn Bridge from Trump.

12. i think Tillis is trying to save his career.

he's done some kind of calculation and decided to vote correctly this time, but it wasn't a vote of conscience. you'd have to possess a conscience for that to be true.

22. Well, if you are referring to Cory's vote 'nay' on disapproving the national 'emergency,'

that might be a bit premature.

Gardner is a good public speaker, quite dynamic. He knows how to frame that right-wing message so it merely sounds like an innocuous pro-business message. But then, after he gets in office, we've seen the horrible irresponsibility of this party and Gardner is right with them.

Yes, Colorado is blue, and the Democrats here will be doing everything humanly possible to get Gardner out of office. The question is, who will run against him?

28. So far Mike Johnston and Andrew Romanoff have announced

By the time the Democratic primaries roll around who knows who else will be in? Gardner has not yet announced he is running for reelection. Personally I don't think he stands a chance in hell in getting reelected ... people will remember how he refused open town halls (even his running away from them) and his trump toadying voting record.

29. I like Romanoff.

I hope you're right, though. Romanoff is great. He didn't really run a good campaign back in '14 against Coffman, then in '15 he had his cousin's suicide.

Things have changed in Colorado since '14, though. Romanoff would be my favorite, for sure. Johnston is OK, and I'm lukewarm on Garcia, Pottratz and Zornio. Colorado Pols has the 2020 'big line' out as we speak and they have Joe Neguse at 40%, but I don't think he's running. I like him, though.

Note that Hick is also on that Big Line list, but he's embarked on what I see as a futile run for president.

30. I think you're right on Hickenlooper

I would have preferred that he run for Senate rather than president.

I like Colorado Pols presidential outlook - trump 40% vs democratic "warm body" 60% ... makes me laugh.

I don't think Neguse will run for Senate ... just took over Polis seat. I willing to listen to all Democratic candidates and hope we pick the best for Colorado.

31. Yeah, me too.

And we've got to figure out how we can mitigate the worst effects of TABOR and Gallagher. Together, these have created an unsustainable state budget.

I've often thought it would be good to call a constitutional convention in Colorado and rewrite our state constitution without these two amendments. TABOR is an unconstitutional disaster. If I elect you to go represent me in the state legislature, and you know it is in my best interest to raise taxes to say, subsidize higher ed so our kids don't get saddled with forever-loans, and you cannot, how is that a representative democracy?

Oh, I know the counterargument is that a plebiscite is the essence of democracy, but our process allows far too much out-of-state money to flow in to convince us of things that aren't really in our best interest. And, as I maintain, why have a legislature if we the people must always legislate the purse string?
