SAPPORO JAPAN
Police in Sapporo said Friday they have arrested a man on suspicion of throwing mayonnaise at female students in a series of incidents this year.
According to police, the suspect, who was identified as Takeshi Furusawa, 32, was apprehended on the platform at Miyanozawa subway station on Thursday night. Police said he was stopped and questioned because he resembled a description of the assailant given by several witnesses earlier in the year, NTV reported.
Furusawa is suspected of throwing mayonnaise at schoolgirls at various stations since April. Police said there have been eight such cases reported, in which an unknown man came up behind schoolgirls and threw mayonnaise at their backs. In all cases, the girls were wearing their school uniforms. Six of the assaults occurred near the Nishi 28-chome subway station, police said, according to NTV.
Furusawa has confessed to throwing the mayonnaise, police said. He was quoted as saying he didnt like school uniforms and wanted to make them dirty.
