Fox News Claims To Reveal Identity Of Navy SEAL Writing Bin Laden Tell-All

Fox News said on Thursday that it has identified the real identity of the Navy SEAL who is writing a book about his participation in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

The forthcoming publication of the book, titled "No Easy Day," was announced on Wednesday. It will be released on September 11, and has not been vetted or cleared by the Pentagon. The author is using a pseudonym, Mark Owen.

But on Thursday, Fox News ran an item with what it claimed was the author's true name. It even named the town where he lives. The network cited "multiple sources" in its reporting.

The Navy SEALs who killed bin Laden have previously been left unidentified.

The Fox News report led to a rebuke from Nation magazine writer Jeremy Scahill — hardly a knee-jerk supporter of the U.S. military:

The lives most endangered by this guy will not be his own.

This whole thing is probably an attempt to get the Obama administration to arrest/prosecute him before the election.

What this does is endanger all the Seals involved in this, and their families.

It's insane.

Are they looking to get him hurt so they can exploit it?

There are seriously sick people out there. They're overstepping here.

I think the guys a wackadoodle, but I don't want him hurt, for Pete's sake.

The issue is Fox Noise disclosing the name, which is a heinous breach of journalistic integrity, but they make these kinds of breaches on an almost daily basis. Fox Noise needs to be shut down as a news organization, and recognized solely as an entertainment property.

I don't begrudge this man if he really put his life on the life repeatedly for trying to collect a kings ransom on it, his pension sure isn't much of a prize. But we haven't seen the book yet, so the info is not known, he's not vetted yet to be a poser or not, simply a support person etc.

But the recent politicizing of the event and accomplishment is also morally wrong, and against several codes. As a retiree, I concur with the Joint Chief of Staff Chairman Dempsey that this needs to stop immediately. There's a world of difference between a prominent elected official sharing celebratory remarks with his constituency, and whining from alleged veterans who should know better not only to respect whoever is the Commander in Chief especially during wartime (!), as well as grin and bear it.

I understand the analogy but the POTUS did NOT leak anything. He shared with us what we needed to know, and nothing more. I lost several ex-partners on 9/11, almost lost the first responding EMS unit on scene (which I had just left), my first line supervisor in the Army Reserve unit I was in, the mayor's husband of the city I was living in at the time, several other Reservists that I either worked with closely or just in the same section (including Warrant Officer Bucca), and nearly lost my girlfriend at the time.

So I needed to hear SOMETHING about the operation and what the end result was, a successful mission, and I remember how our nation shared in the celebration after the announcement.

I also know to who some of the credit actually belongs, and primarily it's to the other 22 members of Seal Team 6 that lost their lives in the later aviation accident, whether or not they were actually some of the "boots on the ground" in the OBL mission. I have heard NO ONE acknowledge their sacrifice to date in this current affair. God Bless them all.
