2. No only GREAT policy, but something even a lot of independents or non-voters can get behind.
It's about time we realize that we can OWN that issue, and it's something even conservatives that I know (as few and far between as they are) ACTUALLY agree on!

9. Vague memory of a hemp special on TV
It was many years ago. One thing I remember from the program was that a lot of rope used to be made of hemp and it had a lot of advantages, one of which was you could grow as much as you needed. I think you can even make cloth out of it? Anyway, if memory serves, the DuPont corporation had come up with this new petroleum based material, which they called Nylon(TM). Nylon can be used to make ropes. DuPont wanted to sell a lot of Nylon, and they didn't want to compete with hemp ropes, so they pushed hard to get marijuana declared illegal and get a crackdown on marijuana going, knowing that would effectively eliminate hemp ropes as a competitor to their Nylon ropes.
Maybe we can revitalize the hemp industry. I'd much rather we used a renewable & biodegradable resource instead of a petroleum based one wherever we can. |

13. Not true
DuPont positioned nylon as a substitute for silk, not hemp. There was far more money in faux silk (women's stockings, for instance) than there would have been in faux hemp, and when the Marihuana Tax Act was passed DuPont wasn't able to produce enough nylon to fulfill demand in that market.
The real reason for banning marihuana was racism...said the head prude, Harry Anslinger: "There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, results from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and others” He also claimed cannabis to be an "addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality and death." He also made quite a few really racist remarks that I won't repeat here. This is him: ![]() |

10. There are single issue voters against abortion
and single issue voters in favor of weed. I'll bet there are 10x more pot enthusiasts than there are of the anti-choice folks.
