Dem senator introduces S. 420 bill that would legalize marijuana

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/429139-dem-senator-files-s-420-bill-to-legalize-marijuana

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) on Friday introduced legislation that would legalize marijuana at the federal level, designating the measure S. 420 in a nod to cannabis culture.

The bill, known as the Marijuana Revenue and Regulation Act, would “responsibly legalize, tax and regulate marijuana at the federal level,” according to the Democratic side of the Senate Finance Committee, where Wyden is the ranking member.

The measure is one of three bills in a broader legislative package — the Path to Marijuana Reform — introduced by Wyden and, in the House, by Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), a member of the Ways and Means Committee. The package aims to “preserve the integrity of state marijuana laws and provide a path for responsible federal legalization and regulation of the marijuana industry.”

“The federal prohibition of marijuana is wrong, plain and simple," Wyden said in a statement Friday. "Too many lives have been wasted, and too many economic opportunities have been missed."

4. Law enforcement, the courts, and prison-industrial complex make money on it's illegality ...

and these entities heavily contribute to Republican campaigns.

There's money to be made however one looks at it.

5. Most of that is at the state level

I know the prison industry shutters at the idea of less people in prison. But as long as we keep poor people poor, there will be no shortage of people being sent to prison.

Besides, if pot is the gateway drug that we are led to believe, just think of the new business the prisons could get.

7. I feel the need to point out

That Ron Wyden is the more-conservative of our Oregon senators.
