Assange vs Akin... so many hypocritical positions around here

Last edited Wed Aug 22, 2012, 03:30 PM - Edit history (1)

People. Please check your emotions.

Assange is avoiding justice, not fighting injustice.

He is accused of trying to impregnate women against their will.

He RAN from the investigation. He fled to the UK.

Unless you have PROOF that these women are lying, then you cannot argue against their right to their day in court. To do so is to argue that SOME WHITE MEN are above the law because of their politics. No, he doesn't get to sit in the UK and tell Sweden the terms of his compliance with the investigation. No, he doesn't get to tell Sweden to break international laws and treaties in order to return. Can he be more narcissistic?

It depresses me to see so many progressives defending this creep.

Assange is UNPRINCIPLED. Where are the bank records he promised? Why is he withholding leaks for personal leverage?

Gandhi went to prison.
MLK went to prison.
Mandela went to prison.
Havel went to prison.
Aung San Suu Kyi went to prison.

The list of principled men and women who went to prison because of what they believed in is VERY LONG, yet Assange not only refuses to face the consequences for INDISCRIMINATELY PUBLISHING classified information (it's no longer about leaks and whistle blowing when you publish all those cables just to undermine a nation's global diplomacy)... but he even refuses to face sexual misconduct charges by two women in Sweden. How can you defend this?

Where is Bradley Manning right now?

Assange exploits whistle blowers...

Yes, although the extradition rules are different... it still is a laughable argument CabCurious Aug 2012 #2

Not if you're informed on the issue it's not. It's state charges of rape not from the two women uponit7771 Aug 2012 #9

And I'm honestly sick of the "you are uninformed" ad hominem retorts his defenders rely upon CabCurious Aug 2012 #11

Which I never understood if his intent was to avoid the nefarious arm of the Obama administration's black bag operations division.

This isn't about "facts."

This is about so many of you blindly defending this guy who is avoiding "rape" charges in Sweden... without any CARE about the facts.

This is absolutely about principles.

I'm seeing so-called progressives defending a man accused of violating women's bodies, trying to impregnate them against their will.

The real logical fallacy here is ad hominem.

Demean and discredit anybody who thinks Assange is a creep and might be guilty.
And defend Assange regardless of the truth.

And yet so many of you defend him fleeing the country and then trying to make this into a US conspiracy.

This is the same man who refuses to release bank records and other leaks entrusted to him... holding it for his own leverage.
