Marianne Williamson for POTUS

I had never heard of this woman before this week, but her candidacy has intrigued me. She is calling for something that I have been eager to hear for a long time -- a spiritual and moral regeneration in our country. When I went to her web site, I found that she advocated many Dem liberal ideals about medical access, education, jobs, peace, retirement with dignity, climate change, etc. But what truly caught mt attention, was her advocacy about ethical morality. It wasn't the standard hypocritical religious bullshit. But rather, it mirrored my own feelings about creating a compassionate and enlightened society.

Her chances of getting the Dem nomination are pretty slim. But even so, I hope that she can infuse the debate about the need for ethical morality into our body politic. We simply must prevent our gov from becoming a vehicle for corruption and crony capitalism. We must insist that our political leaders have a moral compass that it well-aligned.

I ask that all my DU friends to visit her web site and give it a look. https://www.marianne2020.com/

1. She is noted for writing A Return To Love

A quote from that book was widely attributed to Nelson Mandela.

Nothing against her but she has a voice with tones borrowed from nails on a blackboard.

I attended one of her workshops 15-20 years ago.

2. I think she's intriguing too. I get tired of the I'm a good christian fluff line from politicians.

Being a christian does not automatically mean one is a spiritual and moral person. Take Trump, who is considered by many to be a good christian. He wouldn't know spirituality, morals and compassion if it bit him in the face, a lot of "christian" politicians are like that.

11. Evidently according to his pastor in a recent statement,

he also doesn't know what the inside of the church he purportedly belongs to even looks like. What a fraud!

3. I suspect her campaign is more about getting her concerns into the public dialogue

than about seeking the nomination. Some topics (usually the ones we care about) tend to be treated as "fringe"--outside the bounds of "serious" discussion--so one must run for high office to even have a chance of getting them considered.

4. that Marianne Williamson?

I think she was on Oprah back in the 90s?

She has some good stuff. I haven't heard anything form her in years.
Good for her.

I read her book, but I don't think I have a copy of it anymore.

Edit: Actually, a google search has her on SuperSoul, not just the old Oprah show.

5. Does experience and competence count at all anymore?

"Moral compass" can come in a package with experience in government and the ability to make good things happen in government.

We actually have morally-compassed candidates who have experience governing and legislating. Why go chasing unicorns?

7. I think that you missed my point

Which is that ethical morality in gov has been missing for a long long time, mostly caused by Republican worship of the almighty dollar above everything else. The relentless insatiable chase after every dollar on earth is killing us. Unfettered greed is not a virtue. It is not the path to happiness, security, and well-being.

No one talks about the human failing of greed and what it is doing to us.

10. She considers herself a serious candidate

Her schedule shows events in South Carolina and New Hampshire. So she's getting into the fray in the early primary states. Plus she has some Citizen Headquarters started in a bunch of states, including my state Texas.
