Ralph Northam campaign flyers omitted his black running mate...folks acting like he's not racist?
There's a trend..it's a mindset, not just something he did when he was 25..he needs to go, Mon won't be too soon..
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/reeks-of-subtle-racism-tensions-after-black-candidate-left-off-fliers-in-virginia/2017/10/18/de74c47a-b425-11e7-a908-a3470754bbb9_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.e4167417f41b Earlier this week, The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that a batch of Democratic campaign cards distributed in Northern Virginia omitted the photo and any reference to Justin Fairfax. He’s the 38-year-old African-American lawyer from Annandale who’s running for lieutenant governor with Northam. The “Fairfax-free” flyers were printed, the Northam campaign claims, at the behest of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, which supports a gas pipeline through Virginia. The pipeline is opposed by many environmentalists, including Fairfax. The union refused to endorse him. In a Washington Post story, “Black Democrat omitted from some Democratic campaign fliers in Virginia,” the founder of an organization that supports black candidates said Northam’s Fairfax-less literature “reeks of subtle racism” while the president of the Loudon County NAACP denounced the flyers with less inflammatory but equally damning language. “A lot of us feel the Virginia Democratic Party has never been a very inclusive group,” Phillip Thompson said. “And they always kind of marginalize African Americans without providing any grounds for advancement.

1. Coincidence? Perhaps.
But how many related things must come to light before reasonable people make reasonable inferences?

7. They weren't running mates. In Virginia, Gov & Lt Gov are not elected as a ticket.
Voters can choose a Democratic governor and a Republican lieutenant governor.
The palm cards were produced by the Democractic party for a group of canvassers who did not endorse Fairfax. The palm cards with photos of Northam and Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) were produced for canvassers with the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), which asked that Fairfax be excluded because it did not endorse him. Fairfax has spoken critically of two proposed natural gas pipelines that the union supports.
Should the Democratic Party have assented to the wishes of the canvassers - probably not (they were probably afraid they would lose the canvassers if they insisted on having them distribute literature for a candidate they did not endorse - seems like a bad decision, especially in retrospect). That's a slightly different take, though, than attributing racist intent to Northam (rather than the Democratic party) for excluding a running mate (when they weren't running mates - and the exclusion was at the request came from a group of canvassers) |
