They are creating the disaster so that everything can be privatised.

It takes days to read the book, which is hard to put down until you've read the whole thing but you have to put it down to ponder many of the concepts.

Here's the movie version for those who missed it.

If you can, please donate to this incredible site which provides free viewing of nearly any documentary you'd ever want to see and then some.

4. on argentina

"the country was not only a murder scene, but the scene of an extremely violent armed robbery."

i recommend this video for everyone. among other things it describes the hostile takeover of the usa by violent right wing revolutionaries that began with the washington consensus.

14. It's a piece of background info that is essential to our cause...

I figured adding the actual movie would help those who are willing to watch it. I read the book in a weekend and then wandered around in shock for a week. I had speculated on much of it, but not only were those confirmed but explained.

Naomi Klein may be one of the most important journalists of our time for producing this body of work.

16. totally agree

that book changed the way I looked at everything - especially America and it's influence in the world.

When I was done, I realized that the American public was ripe for being shocked and fleeced. and here we are.

5. What will be privatized?

Wasn't the Bush administration the best at privatizing the military, education, prisons, etc.? I don't think anyone's really in charge now.

6. Replace FBI with private intelligent firms.

Corporations prefer them anyways.

Former agents can go work for private firms and make way more money or even open their own shop.

It's a win win win for everybody!

Especially Putin and the wealthy.

Who needs the FBI when you have hundreds of shops of horror.

8. After 9/11

they replaced the airport workers at my local airport. Those workers were hard working, worked all of their lives at the airport but they were replaced with retired cops and the like. There was absolutely no reason those former workers couldn't have been trained to keep their jobs.

10. that is definitely their M.O.: intentionally obstruct programs and then say "see, govt. doesn't work

What people don't seem to grasp is that "government" in a nation like ours is supposed to be is just "the people," at least in times when democracy is not subverted and the nation hijacked by mobsters. Either we live in a cooperative society, or we're just dumb animals, each individually fighting for survival.

13. Yep. Was explaining exactly that to my son last night. "Austerity plans" will be next.

If it’s like other countries, we will see 1) destruction of social safety net, 2) selloff of public assets especially to foreign investors, 3) privatizing public services and public infrastructure, and 4) massive devaluing of the dollar.

We had some “tremors” through the second half of 2018. I expect “earthquakes” throughout 2019.
