VP Pence pushing back on conservative backlash: “This is not an amnesty bill….There is no amnesty in the president's proposals. There is no pathway to citizenship.” He added that that President Trump’s proposal is a “sincere effort” to make a compromise.

Trump's base doesn't want to hear about "compromise."

They don't much like "sincere," either.

is Pence trying to stop the damage from this deal hurting his chances the next time he might be at the top of the ticket.

Take the deal, modify it at the edges, and let the Trumpsters destroy Trump.

from Limpballs, Tucker Carlson, and the screeching harpies of Faux Snooze, it won't be down the middle anymore. They will cleave themselves from Trump, then the GOP'ers in the Senate will be free to ignore him. And they'll all wonder why the TPS protectees were thrown into the mix.

The best thing to happen to Trump is that Democratic leadership stiff-arms the deal, and the reich-wingers can gush about how "Trump called their bluff, they really don't care about the government workers that they've been whining about." Trump finds that his base is even more wedded to him for a clever ploy.

Faux Snooze controls the eyeballs and what passes for brains of Trump's base. They can praise him or vilify him, at this point, we have the power to direct them appropriately.

We NEED to get through the next two years somehow. This is not a perfect way out, but it may just be the only way out. Waiting for Trump to totally capitulate is futile.

Am I understanding this correctly? Trump still wants the same amount of money he is shaking us down for and he promises to leave Dreamers alone for a while even though he is the one who decided to harass them in the first place? He has separated kids from their parents and locked them in cages and we're supposed to believe him on this?

So, he gets what he wanted all along and once the money is paid out there is nothing stopping him from screwing over the Dreamers and all non-Republicans again. And he came to this proposal without giving an inch or talking to the Democratic leadership to find out what they wanted?

No. No. And no. He gets nothing.

...dangling an extension on DACA is just an attempt at looking like they are compromising. Also hoping that the extension would drive a wedge with Democrats...like the attempted meeting with Blue Dogs.

And of course the DACA extension is raising holly hell with the base anyways. They want everything with no compromise, their still drunk on power from when they ran the whole yard. They are refusing to believe they can run roughshod over the House.

The irony, Trump chose this fight before the midterms. He thought he could keep the house by getting everyone fired up over immigration. Sure, it worked for his base, but you need more than that to win.
