7. That's great news but the reality is that she is nearly 86 years old.

And that seems to be the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about.

10. I'm glad she'll be back at work. Just hope she can hang in for 2 more years.

The reality is as you say. She's 85 and this is the third time she's had cancer. She has had other health issues, as well. Her mother also had bouts of cancer and died fairly young, I believe.

The right is waiting for her to keel over, so they can appoint another alt-right Justice, and set the course of the country for far into the future.

She's tough. But the body will do what it will do, and being tough only goes so far. I hope she hangs in there for 2 more years.

12. I had surgery at age 50 and came out of it with

Much loss of stamina and irregular heart beat. So I can't even imagine how a 85 year old feels after a serious surgery like incisions into lungs. She is amazingly brave woman.

14. As for brave, she really had no choice. She had more than incisions.

I heard on tv that most of one of her lungs was removed.

She has had colon cancer and pancreatic cancer. Two cancers with a low survival rate. Now lung cancer, which also has a low survival rate.

This is scary for the Democrats.

16. From personal experience of my surgery with an 8 inch

Incision, to remove gall bladder, first the blood loss weakens you and then the anesthesia weakens you more. Anything which knocks you out like the anesthesia has got to be toxic to some degree.

RBG is very brave to even think about keeping up her work routine.

17. What I have learned personally, as a cancer survivor, is that

many organ-specific cancers have different "types" and respond to treatments differently, depending on that type. One type of lung cancer may be resistant to treatment; another type may respond well.

Also: many cancers nowadays, thanks to advances in medicine, are treated as chronic illnesses, rather than death sentences. I don't know RBG's particulars, but I hope her illness is one of these.

All that said, I do hope she can retire in 2021. God knows she deserves some rest.

22. She might die if she retires.

She has worked her whole life, and her husband died years ago.

We had an elderly worker at my firm. Her boss had retired years ago, but he and the firm pledged to her that she'd have a job for life. He even cont'd to pay part of her salary. She would sleep at her desk, and was eventually given a nothing kind of job. She wasn't a good worker, like she had once been.

During a big layoff, she said that if she lost her job, she would die. The firm did lay her off. She died the following week. Very sad. Of course, choosing to retire vs being laid off are two different things.

I just hope RBG can hold on for two more years. The Republicans are waiting for her to die. This may have something to do with not wanting to rock the Trump boat. They want to be sure they have an alt-righter in the W.H. if they're lucky enough to have another appointment. They have Pence, but whether they can control him as much is an unknown, maybe.

15. Is it actually possible to declare her cancer free so soon after the surgery?

I was under the impression that "cancer free" was not something you could say until about five years had passed.

19. Yeah, it's tricky.

Considering how many times she's dealt with cancer, who can really say for sure that there aren't still microscopic cancer cells lurking about? I hope that it's true, but honestly, I don't think anyone, even her docs, can be certain.

Still, hurray for RBG! She's an inspiration to all of us.

18. My mind goes to Red Blue Green for RBG

But the context is DU so Ruth Bader Ginsburg!!

I knew RGB had recent health concerns but was not aware of possible cancer and surgery.

RGB is a grand human and woman trailblazer of the USSC.

RGB is heroic in these times to put us all over her health in her last years by remaining on the USSC.
