Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez exemplifies all that the GOP fears.

She is a female, a Latina, and a progressive with socialist leanings.

The modern GOP is founded on racism, so a brown person represents that non-white "other" that they fear.

The modern GOP is also founded on misogyny, and a woman who does not defer to the white male leadership also represents what they fear. Thus the hatred for HRC, and Nancy Pelosi, and AOC, and every female who challenges their power.

The modern GOP is rooted in a pre-civil war ideology where women and non-whites knew their place, and the very presence of educated and articulate progressives makes them fearful and uncomfortable.

And when the white conservatives who make up the GOP and the Tea Party talk of "taking back our country", they really mean that they want to push all non-whites and women back into the shadows.

This is literally the past trying to stop the future.

4. They cannot stand oppositional voices.

So they seek to suppress these voices, and not just at the voting places.

The GOP is willing to endanger the future so that the oil companies can extract every drop of oil from the ground.

No green wave, no real future.

12. With all the publicity around the insanity that is the current white house...

Lets hope people who traditionally don't care...start to...
The un-involved...The ones who say "It doesn't matter who I vote for...it won't make a difference"

Hopefully they will see how wrong they are..and that they do make a difference!!!..

13. Apathy is a huge factor, especially so in non-Presidential elections.

In local elections as well, there a 30% turnout is considered good.

14. The GOP doesn't like anyone - let alone a woman of color - agitating for a more egalitarian economy.

Things like Medicare for all, higher taxes on the wealthiest, and a better minimum wage all have strong (usually majority) support in polls. But powerful people of all stripes do whatever they can to prevent such things.

They’ve seen Occupy Wall Street attract young people.

They’ve watched Grumpy Old Bernie attract young people.

This has to be scaring the hell out of them.

28. I too have an olive complexion. As does Ocasio-Cortez.

I am French. And I have heard more than one person say that people from Mediterranean countries are not white.

In my opinion, the terms white and brown are political terms.

At one time, Arabs who were Muslims were considered non-white, while Arab Christians were considered white.

29. Why'd our right AND Putin promote Sanders' candidacy then?

They used him to DEFEAT progressivism in prior election, and they're repeating the tactic now with him and whatever left-wing dissenters they find useful.

You DO realize these Fox and other right-wing attacks on a 29-year-old with no achievements yet are building her up as a national figure? You really should understand why and that they are no more afraid of her than they were of Sanders.

Thus the GOP need for voter suppression and obstruction.

37. Your view is contradicted by the fact that the RIGHT is building Ocasio up

as a national figure. A 29-year-old with no significant achievements, who won a congressional seat with 5% (FIVE PERCENT!) of that district's constituents voting. (Most thought their powerhouse would of course win again as always and didn't bother to vote.)

As for why what Fox and Russia are doing with Ocasio matters, remember, with many structural problems weighing against us, including the electoral college and gerrymandering, the Republicans won/we lost the presidency in 2016 by a very narrow margin and in 2018 we only took the house by very narrow margins. A bunch of them.

They absolutely will try to use splinter groups and third-party candidates to repeat 2016 and consolidate control of government, national and state, in 2020.
