1958 TV Series Featured Con Man Selling a Wall

This is amazing: In 1958, CBS aired an episode of Trackdown in which a con man attempted to sell a town a “wall” in order to protect them from the fake threat of a meteor shower.

The con man’s name was Trump
.

The show’s main character ultimately exposes Trump as a fraud who was plotting with the town’s sheriff to sell the wall. His final words: “You’re under arrest Trump.”

3. It's a real episode. Can't link because on phone but wiki on Trackdown confirms it.

7. Weird.

Was old man Fred going around lobbying for the racist wall that had been proposed at the 1924 KKK convention? Did he become the face of that KKK wall because he was a rich guy in the public eye? Did some writers for Trackdown hear about him and write an episode based on him? Seems too coincidental to be an accident.

10. I imagine one of the screenplay writers had leased from ol' Fred, or had relatives who did.

My great-aunt married up and was in 2nd tier NY society during WWII through the 1980's before she "retired" to Santa Monica. She had some choice words about Trump, his Dad, and their real estate money ("greedy slumlords", "idiot barbarians" and "mobster front men" when Robin Leach did his "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" profile, and I remember she was heartbroken when the Bonewits building was torn down for that "gilded monstrosity".

13. Wasn't that the building he agreed to salvage the facade, then trashed it?

Know there was a building with a gorgeous carvings that he promised to save to make the deal. It was written into the contract, but he didn't want to pay out and pocketed the cost when it was demolished.

eta:
Link to a Frontline video on this story, John Baron (AKA the Donald) gave quotes to the media about how worthless the sculptures were

20. If that episode was about Fred Trump

because Fred was known around NY for promoting a stupid racist wall, maybe little Donny is just following through on that old wall dream his daddy used to talk about but he and the KKK never got the chance to build.

(Maybe we should write our own screenplay. )

19. life imitating art imitating life

apparently, episodes of the show were based on actual stories of Texas Rangers so the state of Texas and the Rangers had to sign off on them.

round and around around around round round

Well of course
We've always had it in us
For a million years
Sleeping halitosis
Deaf ears provide
Perfect pure protection

Round and around
Around, around, round, round

Mushrooms on the horizon
Mushrooms on the horizon

You seem to say to say
Nothing can be something
Ignorance now
Dominates the season
Cruel fool
Idiot and spastic
Dutch courage
Talking like an ashtray

Round and around
Around, around, round, round

Mushrooms on the horizon
Mushrooms on the horizon

How many of you have seen a factory
As the boss held high
And the children die
Don't lecture here
Don't spit on my life

Round and around
Around, around, round, round

Mushrooms on the horizon
Mushrooms on the horizon

Round and around
Around, around, round, round...
