Thank you, Donnie-- my car got repo'd Tuesday nite...

Cute. I happened to up at 3AM when the guy showed up.

This is not entirely entirely Tangerine Turdlapper's fault, although the shutdown is, and I am quite guilty of not handling my finances better. But, being out of work and living on credit cards and Social Security just ain't doin' it since my savings got wiped out.

With all the fees, costs, and whatevers, it cost me almost 2 grand to get the thing back, but at least I have my ride. And go back to what little work there is.

At this point I don't give a damn about my credit rating-- I just want to get back to work and avoid homelessness.

Anybody drive for Uber or Lyft and knows what the real deal is? As long as I have this damn car, it might as well make me some money.

1. Have a son in law that drives for Uber in the PGH area

He likes it. He can make his own hours and do as many hours as needed to get by... Everything is done by credit card so no money is involved so he does not have to worry about getting robbed.

3. Statistically, such drivers earn an average of $7-9 per hour.

Also, you would need to get additional insurance coverage for your car. Insurance companies will not cover such driving under a normal policy, and Lyft has a $2000 deduction that you must pay before their insurance kicks in.

That said, I took a Lyft last year and the driver told me she averaged about $1000 per weekend driving Friday - Sunday. She said you need to drive at the prime times to make any $ - off hours just cost you $. She also said the big $ was driving fares from Orange County to LAX, especially if you can get a return fare while at LAX.

6. Uber advertises a $1000 deductible

It's contingent upon the driver having private insurance on the vehicle used which covers their normal driving.

7. Hmmm... I get the gummint standard 55 cents a mile when working...

which should work out better. It paid for my last car and was supposed to pay for this one.

And I'd have to pay taxes on Uber earnings after taking deductions. No taxes on mileage reimbursement.

It has been said that life sucks, and then you die, but first they have to stop this shit shutdown.

4. I think the inside skinny on Uber and Lyft

is that it doesn't pay much better than minimum wage when you figure in your expenses. Best to go with something different if you can find it and save your car.

I'm sorry you are having financial trouble. I know what that's like. I filed for bankruptcy a few years back.

8. The other thing I have heard is that you need to sign up as both a

Lyft and an Über driver in order to get enough fares to make it worth it.

10. I go to the main branch of my library occasionally.

I met a security guard who worked at the library as a security guard and at one of the local hospitals as an orderly.

I think you are better off applying for a job as an orderly at a hospital, the last time my oldest brother was in one, the people that wheeled patients around all looked like retirees, don't know what the pay is like though. My $0.02.
