Janz: Targeting Voter Suppression

The Prosecutor Who Challenged Devin Nunes Is Now Targeting Voter Suppression

Andrew Janz’s next act: launching a super-PAC.

Bryan Schatz
January 9, 2019

Last November, 34-year-old prosecutor Andrew Janz came within 6 points of unseating Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.)—the closest any Democrat has ever come to defeating the eight-term Republican and then-chair of the House intelligence committee. Along the way, he raised an impressive $10 million and gained a national profile. Now Janz has launched a super-PAC he hopes will raise several million dollars for “protecting voting rights for people all across the country.”

“This is a major problem afflicting our democracy,” Janz says. “I think we need to hit the ground running.” He says his newly registered Voter Protection Project will take an approach that combines goals to “support candidates who want to expand voting rights and punish candidates who stand against voting rights,” he says. The project will also help create and support ballot measures and laws that expand and protect voting laws in order to “lay the groundwork for 2020.”

1. Only 6 points! That sucks.

Good for him though, even though he didn't beat the co-conspirator Nunes he can still do a lot of good for the whole country with this plan to help the unAmerican voter suppression in the US. This definitely needs to happen ASAP so 2020 will not be as screwed up as the 2018 midterms and the 2016 elections.

9. Georgia, Kansas, Texas, and others

I want to see something happen about the voter purges in multiple states, and the polling place closings (coincidentally, only where POC vote), and the voter ID bull.

10. Florida, Georgia and North Carolina

seem to have a lot of problems too. It should be a nationwide clean-up of voter suppression and dirty deals.

11. "nationwide clean-up of voter suppression"

Yes! The House is trying, but then there's Mitch and the GOPers in the Senate to block them.

Florida will have the ex-convicts getting their votes back, and North Carolina -may- at least get rid of 1 crook, but Georgia seems to have only Stacey Abrams' suit fighting there.

Hope we can get enough people to understand how important 2020 will be for the next 10 year period!

6. thanks for link and reminding me!

For some strange reason, I forgot all about their work after the midterms, as if it simply stopped.

8. "derelict US M$M"

They certainly are. There are a multitude of problems being given little attention while M$M (and sometimes DU general discussion) does Trump, Trump, Trump. M$M has been terrible about reporting about gerrymandering, voter purges and voter suppression -- it does no good to mention these things for a few minutes on election day or the day after.
