there are daily examples of normalization of this most unfit president -

Today CNN - Cillizza writing a column called "The greatest trick Donald Trump ever pulled"

NYT "The Daily" podcast raising the point that trump's impetuous, idiotic decision re Syria may actually be a good thing'

NYT just an hour ago posting an Op/Ed "Erdogan: Trump Is Right on Syria. Turkey Can Get the Job Done."

This happens just about every day, and has since the asshole's "election" two years ago.

Hard to tell if it is corporate media money injecting this bullshit, a severe lack of imagination of the media not recognizing the danger we are in, Russian (or other) tendrils leaking in to our media and pushing their propaganda....

But each of these articles are ammo - they are what keep the deplorable 40% deplorable - esp when augmented by faux news and hate radio.

4. I dont see how this is normalization.

"The greatest trick Donald Trump ever pulled"
Donald Trump has done a lot of unprecedented things since he started running for president in June 2015. He's attacked prisoners of war. He's bullied just about everyone in the world of politics. He's downplayed the white supremacist violence that led to a woman's death in Charlottesville, Virginia. He's said thousands, literally, of things that are not true.
But the most amazing trick Trump has pulled as a politician -- and now as president -- is to convince lower-middle class, predominantly white voters that he is one of them.

5. there are lots that won't read beyond the headline - and accept the headline as admiration.

Most people do not pay attention to the depth that we at DU do.

Words have meanings and uses. And the media is feeding lots of ammo to the deplorables

9. Nope, Im not going to agree to disagree.

Want to talk about bigger fish to fry? Attacking the media for something they are not doing is right in Dumps playbook, so Im not going to stand by while you or others do it.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt on the jury poll, but now I wish I hadn't. I wish I had read down-thread.

Trump. I honestly wonder what side you are on if you can not see the media bias in favor of him.

22. Fine, be disingenuous. You aren't fooling anybody.

Cut the crap. You aren't defending a free press, you are making an excuse for a biased, corporate machine that exists to prop up the status quo. He assures their ratings and they kiss his ass in return. Do you really think we have a fair unbiased press in this country?

25. You dont seem to understand how ratings work.

The press does not make them up, Trump does not make them up, the ratings come from the people, they are giving the people what they want, nothing more nothing less. That is their job. And the people want a train wreck. They love it as evidenced by the high ratings the press gets when they cover Trump being an imbecile that come from the American people.

10. The media is the reason that Trump has the approval rating he has.

If it wasn't for them his ratings would be about half of what they are. Sometimes when I listen to them I just want to beat my head against the wall until it bleeds. It is so fucking infuriating.

11. How would people know how bad he is if it wasnt for the media?

In other words, if there was no media how would anyone know what he is doing? and if they didn't know then how would they have a bad opinion of him?

12. They do far more to normalize him than they do to show him for what he really is.

If they portrayed him accurately he would not have the following that he does right now.

I wanted Clinton to win and gave everything I could to seeing that happen, but realistically, I knew the media was gunning for Trump. Ratings. And they've gotten what they asked for.

19. Thank YOU!

For some reason, this person is blind to that influence. We have a real problem here and it's the media that promotes Trump because he boosts their ratings.

23. Thats like saying that the record companies suck

because Brittany Spears is so successful. She is successful because people bought so many albums, you don't seem to be able to look at the deeper problem and its the American people. Not the media.

26. You really need to take a course in the influence of the media and the effect it

has on the opinion of the body politic and it's ability to persuade people to think a certain way or favor a particular brand/celebrity. You are hopelessly naive.

30. People bought records because record company marketers did their jobs.

People don't buy extra scented beads for the dryer because their clothing stinks after being washed without them.

It is entirely media (marketing). The "news" will blow Trump up and tear him down in the same day if they have to in order to stimulate viewers to tune in or hit social media.. blah blah.

Edited because it read like an argument rather than a point... my apologies for the first go. It didn't reflect where I am coming from.

32. I agree with that.

But if the people didn't like it they wouldn't go for it. I think marketing and advertising is one of the worst things we have, but that doesn't change the fact that it works because people like it. Nothing stops the people from looking for a different thing, they are just lazy and dont want to. There is a reason Cspan has low ratings, I personally like it, but the majority of people would rather have bubble gum. Its not the bubble gum peoples fault for that now is it?

20. The defect is not in the media,

it is in the American people. Ratings are what drives the media, ratings come from the people. The people like seeing a train wreck, they like seeing conflict, they don't like seeing competence and government and boring proposals. Its not the media, its the people.

31. Chicken or the egg

I would like to put forth that the media was not always ratings driven. Not like this. People haven't changed. Media has. Instead of 3 channels and one or two local papers with limited space (that had to be used wisely) we now have 24/7 on dozens of local / cable / website / social media / apps etc etc etc. The competition for viewership has lead media down a path that doesn't serve either media or people well over the long haul. It isn't sustainable in my very humble opinion.

Your point is well taken but media outlets still have a choice whether to roll in the sewer or take a higher path.

I love the comments in the NYT but all too often the articles are Clinton deranged and drumpf apologists and I am sick of that so cancelled NYT and now subscribe to WaPa.
