I am not trying to say they are not racists, but many Republicans speak out against government programs while living off of government programs. This is not the first time The New York Times published a story like this. I think they published one during the Obama Administration. In that piece, there was a man who claimed he used government programs, but blamed the government and wanted the government to end social safety net programs because he believed it was the social safety net programs that caused him to need government programs. He believed it was the government taking money from him to give to others that caused him to need government assistance. He believed that if the government stopped taxing him to give money to others people he would have enough money to provide for his family.
We have known for years about the Tea Party Republicans who rail against all forms of government programs, but need all of those programs. When asked about their opposition to the very programs they need to survive they claim that, unlike all the other people on those programs, they need those programs.
So, this is nothing new. Many Republicans who rail against the government and talk about rugged individualism would not be able to survive without the help of the government. Many, if not all of them, just try to pretend that the government does not provide them with help. They then tell everyone else that they should succeed in life without the help of the government.
