1. Who are the twenty GOP Senators who would convict?

If he resigned while Trump still President, who could get confirmed as new VP?

14. True. But the new VP has to be confirmed by the House and Senate. That ain't happening.

HOWEVER, some circumstances are not ordinary. In the case of a vacancy in the office of Vice President during a term (meaning before the next election), the 25th amendment allows the President to nominate a replacement, but this nomination must be confirmed by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress (not just the Senate.) This is the only time a Vice President needs to be confirmed, and it’s exactly because, in this sort of case, the person becoming Vice President was not elected.

15. If Republicans don't get a Republican VP to succeed T/P...

...they will never vote to impeach/convict the President, no matter how egregious his crimes. The same thing was true during Watergate: when Agnew resigned, the Republicans made it clear they would make sure Nixon wouldn’t get removed from office unless Ford was confirmed first, because there was no way they’d ever remove one of their own from office if a Democrat serving as Speaker of the House (back then, Carl Albert of Nebraska) would become President to fill part of a term where the Republican won the prior election.

22. They were never going to vote for it.

There could be video of Trump murdering babies on the front lawn of the White House and they'd shrug it off.

24. Mueller is running the show here, and he knows Trump and Pence must go together.

I'm sure he's timing whatever he needs to in the most appropriate way.

The only way Repubes survive this is if Pence resigns for some made up reason and Trump installs a new VP that for sure is not involved in all of this, who will then pardon Trump.

If Trump and Pence are implicated on the same day and are both facing impeachment at the same time, Congress will not allow a President facing impeachment to nominate a new VP while that is happening. This is their window for those types of games, and they only have about 2 more weeks to try and do it, but with Trump firmly believing he is right and done nothing wrong and is above the law, he will never do what he should do at the right time (luckily for us).

16. This would have to happen quickly or there is no VP

The House can continue to vote no on any nominees, which puts the SOH next in line to be President.

13. I've been asking about,

that Pence-Manafort-Flynn connection. Flynn did a lot of bad shit, a retired general called him a traitor. For Mueller to ask that Flynn not go to jail he must have given up the goods on a lot of people, I'm guessing that Pence is one of them?

Really the bastards are all traitors, too bad they couldn't all rot in jail.

So this is why Repubs were pushing for Pence to resign, they wanted Trump to hurry and appoint another VP so that we don't get president Pelosi. Mueller needs to nail some Republican Congressmen too; McConnell, Ryan, Nunes, Rohrabacher. Send a message to the traitorous party.

19. What if Pence falls on the sword

And says he lied to 45, kept him in the dark, maybe even mislead him. He resigns. He gets pardoned. 45 says any lies he told on the questionnaire are because he was lied to. This becomes his mantra for the rest of his term and re-election. He doubles down on draining the swamp and says his only mistake was to trust a politician. He names a non-politician to be VP...who gets confirmed before January.

All this would have to happen fast. But I can imagine it playing out

21. Interesting that SHE would retweet this, but note that

she describes it as "opinion and speculation."

Cautiously note, though, that the politicsusa article questionably includes a tweet from Jon Cooper of the Democratic Coalition PAC. I disregarded it when googling just 2 days ago because, imo, he's something of a slimeball and not a trustworthy source. And I would think unlikely to be a confidant of anyone Mueller would confide in.

Even though I hoped the investigation would prove actionable illegal activity by Pence, it never occurred to me that Pence could be forced to leave office before Trump. Duh.
