Watched the first part of the ceremony

Yes, it was interesting and an historical event.

Some random thoughts:

Was nice to see a woman (Marine?) leading the pallbearers.

I have never been a pallbearer, but I can imagine that walking these steep stairs from the Capitol in unison is not easy task. And, they were lucky it was not snowing.

The Cathedral was magnificent. I am curious about all the flags hanging high above. States? Units of the military?

And I remember the heads of states walking behind JFK coffin and the riderless horse (still feeling goosebumps) with de Gaulle towering over all of them. From where to where were they walking? Was the Cathedral even existed then?

It was said that normally the current President eulogizes the one being mourned but in this case such awkwardness was avoided since the son is also a former president. But as I was watching Jeb and Hillary, especially Hillary, could not help whether each was thinking: what if..

Well, can we now move back to normal? As much as there is?

1. The rendition of the "Our Father" was quite nice.

Wondering about the hearse. It has the Presidential seal on it and holders for flags up front. Do they keep a designated Presidential hearse in mothballs for the unique ceremonial duty of this infrequent event?

Or do they adapt a new model for each separate funeral? This one looks brand new.

2. Jon Meacham usually annoys me, but he gave a beautiful eulogy.

3. I don't think the Cathedral was built back then.

4. No, it apparently opened in 1976 when Queen Elizabeth visited with Ford.

I remember visiting there in 1987.
