2. Me, too!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't USAA nothing but a for-profit insurance company? Who is trying to come off as this oh-so-compassionate "we cater to and give breaks to veterans" company? And how are you a member of an insurance company? This one always bugs me, too!

7. They try to come off that way because it is literally their customer base

Current and former military, and their family members.

34. They're a private chartered insurance company, like GEICO used to be.

You couldn't be a member or an employee unless you first had served in the Army or Army AirCorps/US Air Force (the USAA part of the name), then later any Veteran could be open an account. Now they're open to some state and federal employees, or DoD contractors.

They're still not a publicly traded company, so when there is a serious profit, that excess is supposed to go back to members - just as happens in Credit Unions.
But most of the time, profits that don't go to Corporate Operations are used to keep rates low or to maintain the risk pool for their home and auto insurance.

3. Why I will never go back to watching regular commercial TV.

The commercials.

Oh, I watch my share of TV, just over the internet. No commercials. It's wonderful for many reasons: aside from the absolute lack of stupid commercials, I can watch more shows in the same amount of time if I choose.

Okay, so I'm rarely up to date on current shows, but somehow that's not a problem.

I hate it when I visit someone and the TV is simply on all the time.

8. The one that drives me nuts is

the one where the girl says her auto insurance rates went up for repairs that she could have fixed with a pen.

I always yell at the TV,"Then why didn't you fix it with a pen?"----(I'm not too mature sometimes.)

26. All of Liberty commercials are annoying

The 'customers' (actors, of course) come across as whiny and entitled. I guess that's a feature for this ad, not a bug. I have no clue who their target audience might be but they turn me off.

27. The "accident forgiveness" schtick really Po's me.

They want you to pay more to have accident forgiveness on your policy so that IF YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT, you won't pay more for your car insurance.

What a scam!!!

10. We love this commercial

Living on the west coast, we need an east coast translators “Da water heetah feld” cracks me up. Remembering advertising’s goal is to get in your head. Wicked pisser of a mission accomplished.

6. USAA limits their customer pool to current & former service members...

...and their families.

You can take'em or leave'em, but there's no mystery why their commercials lean heavily on "we take care of people who have served." That is who their current and potential customers are.

https://www.usaa.com/inet/wc/why_choose_usaa_main?wa_ref=pub_global_usaaandu#anchorMembership

USAA Membership

Membership is open to those who serve and their eligible family members.

We welcome you to join USAA if you are:
Active military, former military, an eligible family member, or a cadet or midshipman.

11. OK, but that doesn't change my main point

It's still a limited-base setup.

The bulk of their pool of potential new customers are current or ex military, so their ads lean heavily in that direction.

15. That Business Model Works?

Discounted rates to everyone that is a customer? Begs the question if they're book rates aren't inflated so they can make everyone think they're getting a discount.

21. That is, by far, the commercial that drives me the craziest.

"Sahgent Baker" has the distinction of replacing the dancing loogie in the Mucinex ads as most annoying commercial ever. The whole premise is foolish. If a hot water heater leaking rocks your world, for god's sake don't have kids. LOL.

It's a water heater. Hot water doesn't need to be heated.

30. Virtually all of the Wayfair commercials

Esp. the one with the couple dancing through the house because they got all the arduous work of buying stuff online done.

You can argue they work because I remember them, but I'll never buy anything from them unless I find out they contribute millions of dollars to progressive candidates.
