power. Now is a good time to get that rolling.

While he is office the president must place his assets in a valid blind trust.
Presidential candidates must pass the same test that applicants to become citizens do. The naturalization officer will ask 10 at random and you have to get six right. practice here

(12,936 posts)Even if it's only a term as mayor, a politician would know who he is working for, and how to work with disparate groups to achieve a common goal. Trump's "My way or the highway" approach to "governing" (or whatever the hell it is he's doing) wouldn't get him elected dogcatcher.

(22,612 posts)i think that has a legit chance of passing. The blue states will for sure do it and I don't really see why the red states would object all the loudly either. granted it is protecting drumpf now but outside of him i don't think they are in any hurry to see a Democrat "run amok" either. Restricting pardon power really hurts no one.
I would limit it to anyone without a relationship (family, business, political) with the president. the details of that can be worked out by Congress. The president could still PROPOSE a pardon for family, etc... and that pardon would have to be approved by congress.

(889 posts)I've often wondered why the Founders gave the President unchecked pardon power. Presidents are not supposed to be kings.
As it is now, Congress can override a presidential veto. It's not easy, as a 2/3 vote is needed in both chambers. Give Congress that same power to override a presidential pardon.
It still wouldn't be easy. But this would allow the pardon to be debated openly. And it would force Congress members to go on record.
