Manafort held secret talks with Assange in Ecuadorian embassy

Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort held secret talks with Julian Assange inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, and visited around the time he joined Trump’s campaign, the Guardian has been told.

Sources have said Manafort went to see Assange in 2013, 2015 and in spring 2016 – during the period when he was made a key figure in Trump’s push for the White House.

not to know that the CIA surveilled the Embassy where Assange was, and that probably the State Dept worked out an arrangement for the Embassy to inform the US about Assange's visitors?

Pretty stupid, I guess.

That Manaforte said he didn't talk with Assange, Trump agreed in writing, but they already had info from the CIA saying he did? Now they are both caught in perjury? Is that what just happened?

Ecuadorian intelligence claims WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange met with former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort in London.

In an internal document obtained by The Guardian, the country’s Senain intelligence agency describes Paul Manafort as one of several well-known guests to visit Assange at London’s Ecuadorian embassy, along with unspecified “Russians.” Sources in Ecuador tell the publication that Manafort’s visit to the embassy was not logged ...

WASHINGTON — It’s been an extraordinary 24 hours in the world of Paul Manafort.

On Monday evening, Special Counsel Robert Mueller said in an explosive new court filing that Manafort, the disgraced former Trump campaign chairman and Republican lobbyist, had lied to the FBI and the special counsel’s office despite signing a plea deal in which he agreed to “fully, truthfully, completely and forthrightly” answer all of the government’s questions.

Then, Tuesday morning, the Guardian revealed that Manafort had allegedly visited Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, at least three times over the past five years. One of those visits occurred in March 2016, the same month that Manafort joined the Trump presidential campaign to help Trump secure the Republican nomination. Later that year, WikiLeaks would receive tens of thousands of emails that were stolen from the Clinton campaign and the Democratic Party by Russian hackers. WikiLeaks spent the final months of the 2016 campaign selectively releasing those emails in an effort to damage Clinton’s chances before the election ...

By allegedly violating his plea agreement, Manafort, who is already facing 10 years in prison for tax fraud, could face more time behind bars if Mueller’s team decides to refile charges ...

... Any evidence gleaned from interviews with Manafort are now tainted by his alleged lies and crimes ...
