Barnicle on Trump's Vet's Day: He's So Narcissistic 'He Doesn't Get the Meaning of the Cemeteries'

Mike Barnicle on Trump’s Veteran’s Day: He’s So Narcissistic ‘He Doesn’t Get the Meaning of the Cemeteries’

by Colby Hall | Nov 13th, 2018, 7:28 am

One of the most basic expectations of a sitting U.S. President is to honor those citizens who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. In fact, we have two holidays to celebrate those who have served in the military and the expectation is for the Commander in Chief to lead the nation in honoring those who serve in the military by visiting cemeteries.

President Donald Trump, however, is receiving criticism for his failure to attend a ceremony at a French cemetery where over 2,000 American soldiers lay after sacrificing their lives in World War I. He also did not attend Arlington National Cemetery during Veteran’s Day weekend for reasons that are still unclear.

Former CIA Director John Brennan, a vocal critic of President Trump, visited the set of Morning Joe this morning to discuss this topic, but it was Mike Barnicle who had the sharpest criticism for the Commander in Chief.

“My first instinct is enormous sadness that we have a president of the United States who doesn’t get the historic legacy of all of these traditions that he has avoided both in Paris and yesterday at Arlington,” he opened

He then referenced Trump’s curious appearance at CIA’s headquarters in Langley, Virginia in which he before a “wall with the stars on it of people, former agency employees and — who have lost their lives,” and tried to make sense of Trump’s ceremonial miscues.

“He has no sense of history about almost everything other than his own life. He’s so narcissistic, he’s so self-involved, that he doesn’t get the meaning of the cemeteries, the American cemeteries overseas, he doesn’t get the tomb of the unknown and the tradition of the president laying the wreath.”

I suspect Trump might actually be so afraid of death that he has a phobia of cemeteries. Nitram Nov 2018 #4

honors their war dead.

With Trump, I think he doesn't get the connection between the sacrifice of soldiers 100 years ago in WWI and 73 years ago in WWII and the freedoms we enjoy today because it has no personal connection to him and didn't directly enrich him.
