71 Percent of Trump-Endorsed Candidates Lost Their Elections

Twitter user Ally Maynard painstakingly compiled a list of 55 House, Senate, and gubernatorial candidates President Trump either held rallies for or endorsed on Twitter, and found that 39 of them lost, meaning 70.9 percent of candidates President Trump endorsed were defeated.

LOL! Sorry... No, I do not believe that's an entirely accurate statement. In my opinion it's a bit misleading to make such a claim.

The significant distinction being made here is with your use of the words "general election". At that point, they were already the party's nominee and it's assumed that loyal Democrats will (by default) "support" and/or vote for the party's nominee by virtue of their party association.

I'd also take issue the word choice and the assertion that GeorgeII actually "endorsed" either of them. Supporting them by default as the party's nominee (and voting for them where applicable) is hardly what I'd consider to be an actual "endorsement".

It's unclear to me what good purpose it serves to go down this path. Is it an attempt to refute the figures that George II posted? Or is it just to distract?

In any case. none of this changes the facts on the ground and the dismal showing that "Our Revolution" and "Justice Democrats" had with regard to their preferred candidates.

38. From the TOS

", but we do expect members to be generally progressive and to support Democrats at election time -- remember that and respect it when posting."

Your comment:

"The significant distinction being made here is with your use of the words "general election". At that point, they were already the party's nominee and it's assumed that loyal Democrats will (by default) "support" and/or vote for the party's nominee by virtue of their party association. "

In the general, we endorse, or "support" if you prefer, every Dem running for office. It is understood that in the primaries, it's pretty much open season and one can attack, within reason, Dem candidates one doesn't support or endorse. An example is one long time member here who back in 2008 was quite vicious with her attacks on Hillary. Calling her "hysterical" and making fun of her "cackle". But that was okay because it was during the primaries.

So, in regards to Our Revolution's track record, I think it would be fair to point out the failure rate during the primary but for the general, all of us should have hoped for, and worked for, a 100% success rate.

I don't know why George II is bringing up Our Revolution candidates and their success rates when the enemy is Trump and in a thread about Trump and his success rate.

54. Kaleva, that OR has enlarged their endorsements

to include mainstream Democrats like Stacey and Gillum seems like it'd be a GOOD thing -- ?? Remember 2016 with 3 candidates across the entire nation endorsed by Sanders? I don't remember, but whether they all won or all lost, that didn't work very well for developing the power to influence legislatures.

After that, they tried loosening the ideological requirements a bit, but again it's just not a way to grow enough power to pocket some IOUs and even get to vote on legislation.

Now, they're endorsing a whole bunch of Democrats who already are or intend to work within the mainstream, and that more didn't win suggests they're still endorsing some candidates specifically because they share their ideology, even if they're unlikely to win. Next time for those maybe, right?

This week, as a result of endorsing mainstream Democrats, OR is able to claim dozens of winning candidates as their own and 88 more representatives in office will always take their calls and want to be supported again in 2 years.

It might sound too much like sausage making to idealists, but that's how dissenting factions grow enough of a voice in the halls of power to be able to make a difference. So, congrats to OR on both its learning curve and being able to claim 88 victories in 2018.

HERE is an illuminating interview from last year of newly installed president of Our Revolution, which shows that they, Nina Turner and, as she refers to him, "the Senator", are not necessarily the friends of Democrats. These are HER words, speaking on behalf of Our Revolution and "the Senator".

I'm on my phone right now so I can't easily access the info again but I believe there were 120 some OR endorsed candidates that won Tuesday and 114 or so that lost. Then there's about 20 candidates in races that haven't been decided yet.

Later tonight when I can access my laptop, I can give you exact numbers. If I can cut and paste their names, I'll do that to.

They actually endorsed 178 candidates whose races were decided on November 6. 74 won (a few of them were unopposed), 104 lost. That's 41.5%.

There are still 18 elections pending:

60. Thanks. Of course we do, but I resent an organization that has openly stated...

...that they are willing to support non-Democrats (who obviously would be running against Democrats in that case) seemingly taking credit for some of the victories we saw on Tuesday. I would venture to guess that without their support perhaps we would have had more victories on Tuesday. With a success rate of ~40% on Tuesday (and ~30% overall in 2018), that might logically be true.

To me, with their openly hostile attitude toward the Democratic Party*, they're probably doing more harm than good.

*Very interesting interview of Our Revolution's president here:
