NYT says a Blue Wave did happen

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/11/07/us/politics/how-democrats-took-the-house.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

See the graphic; picture says a thousand words. I've seen alot of people post here and at other sites there wasn't a blue wave. As Joe Biden says, Malarkey! There was a wave, and it got us what we wanted - we won back the House, and we flipped governorships.

Thatís a wave if there ever was one.

I had to search way back in my journal for that one.. I didn't want to jinx it by talking about "blue wave" until after it happened.

13. Yes, it did.

I was furious that last night, right off the bat, CNN said "there is no blue wave". Most of the races hadn't even been called yet or all the polls closed.

23. i heard that too, and note it was early on when the polls were about to close

Carville wasn't his usual optimistic self, i guess because of what happened in 2020 he was being very cautious. Later in the evening as blue wins came in he lightened up a bit more. He looks tired and weather beaten by the political climate.

15. Yes

The bullshit media has been trying to downplay what happened and notably, by merely looking at Congress and governors.

One of the things politically-active Democrats wanted to see was for the party to focus on having an impact up and down the ballot (not unlike the "50 state strategy". I.e., our state governments, many of which were seized in the 2010 teabagger assault, needed to be clawed back one seat at a time. This meant massive grassroots organization and the help of many - whether through volunteering or providing funds. The result is what we saw yesterday.

The problem I have with their analysis however, was right at the end -

Note: Shifts do not include districts in Pennsylvania because of redistricting.

That "redistricting" allowed Democrats in PA to gain 4 more seats (including Lamb's). That blue shift WAS part of "the wave" because really, those seats could have gone to Republicans too (none of the seats were uncontested) and that data should have been included.

22. great point re: the PA redistricted seats pickup

Dems' "run everywhere" approach certainly was great strategy. It had GOP scrambling given there were so many races to divvy up their coffers to.

One thing to mention which i haven't seen all day: KUDOS to all our Dems leaders - POTUS Barack Obama, VP Biden, FLOTUS Michelle, Speaker Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, Tom Perez, BETO!!, Chuck Shumer, even Bernie Sanders, Avenatti and Michael Bloomberg ,
and a few others - who've done a darn good job travelling around the country and stumping for Blue candidates. They lifted our spirits, kept us focused, and got us over the final stretch to the win. Many thanks to them for giving us the leadership we needed so desperately. We are in a defining moment. We need to keep this momentum buildup to 2020.

24. Definitely agree with the shout-out to our leaders and elected officials

current and past, for going on an extremely strenuous campaign trail to fire up the Democratic base, criss-crossing the country for the last couple weeks. And many of them, despite literally losing their voices, soldiered on to help us reach the successful outcome that we achieved!

in Senate seats in reliable Red states (plus unpredictable Florida).

33. It didn't happen as some anticipated it would, but if you're following the details, it HAPPENED.

No, we did not take back the House AND Senate.

But if you look at every other race, it was a Blue Wave. And we sent a lot of creeps home to spend more time with their families (Scott Walker, Karen Handel, Dana Rorbacher....the list goes on).

Also many wins outside of the "higher-profile" House and Senate races. In the big picture, it was a major victory.

34. Trump and the gop are done,

If the gop in Congress allow this criminal to continue going unchecked attacking institutions , the rule of law, the truth, and OUR Democracy. The next election again will be an even greater disaster for them, and for maybe decades.
