Time to accept that a large part of the country is buying what Trump is selling

There's no blue wave tonight. We're losing every "reach" race. If we take the House, it will be by a thin margin.

2016 could be dismissed as a fluke, people voting for a joke candidate because they were disenchanted with the system. But this is a conscious embrace of Trump and everything he stands for. We are living through a very dark time.

1. Oh please.

There are 3 new (D) seats (flips from R) coming in PA and they are just getting the results in.

3. It's the "red shift", pervasive Republican election fraud

Read Krugman's op-ed in NYTimes tonight. And weep.

4. I hate to say it, but I agree.

I just hope we can win the House. And we are going to need an exceptional candidate to beat Trump in 2020. I'm not just talking qualified, our candidate is going to have to outshine Trump as much as Beto outshines Cruz. This feels almost as bad as 2016, because people knew this time what they were getting.

11. Totally agree😫😫😫

If we do not take the House, all bets are off and people get what they deserve. This really hurts, because so many thought 2016 was a fluke.

19. They say it's about Trump, but it may not be a referendum on Trump at all.

We'll have to see what some exit polls say.

13. Trump dominates our national conversation. Even the exit polls show he's playing a big role

We're far beyond the point where anyone with an IQ over 60 can rationalize voting for a national Republican while somehow denying that it's an endorsement (or at least an accommodation) of Trump.

6. You are just realizing it now?

I realized during the 2016 campaign, even if Trump had lost, too many Americans bought it. That's been our problem all along.

8. I'm very discouraged

Now we will hear trump gloating for two years. If we don't take the house then we can safely say that Trump has more support then I imagined. I was sure that our side would come out in force, backed even by some moderate Republicans. Georgia and Florida run by racist trumpers. Senate gains for the other side.

I'm more unhappy now then two years ago.

We could still end up taking the House, despite massive gerrymandering. And that would be huge.

Can't even watch TV anymore. I'll find out what happens here instead. If the news is bad I find it more comforting to here from you all. If it's good news I would also rather it be from you guys. ☺️

14. Oh, and Georgia and Florida have been run by racist Trumpers since long before ...

Trump was even a thing. So if we fall short this time, we dust ourselves off and try again. That's what we do.

What are these people thinking, and why are there so many of them with that mindset?

26. Or listen to the 30+ years of republican funded hate AM radio

This was a multigenerational approach that silly urban democrats utterly ignored. And we all suffer the lasting consequences. Fox News is only an afterthought.

Those of us in the rural areas have been calling out for help on this for decades, but have just been left to fend for ourselves.

16. They're on the defensive, but they aren't losing ground

They're at high tide right now. They should be losing left and right just to bring them down to parity, but instead we're fighting tooth and nail, district by district, and we're losing races like FL, where DeSantis ran as Trump's testicle-washer.

Dems are still on track to win the House.

25. No, they're not

There aren't many (if any) safe-R seats tonight that are suddenly up in the air. Instead, we're the ones fighting to reclaim middle-of-the-road areas that should be a given for us given the environment. All the talk running up to the election of us penetrating deep into Republican territory is turning out to be bullshit.

We're still on course to take the House, but's it's not going to be a huge win.

18. I agree with the OP, mostly because a large part of the country only cares about one thiing,

their perceived tax break they think they're gonna get.

A large part of this country would vote for Trump again and again as long as they think he'll get them an extra few bucks in their pockets. They all know he's a world class asshole and pathological liar, but they don't give a rats ass as long as they're a few cents richer in April. Pathetic.

party are now.

And they embraced the evil wholeheartedly.

Iím glad Iím old and wonít live long enough to see the depths that the GOP and their fuhrer are gonna take this country to.
