'I work in the automotive industry. Trump's policies help me, help my family'

Live blog: Midterm election 2018 updates, news and analysis

"I work in the automotive industry and a lot of his policies actually help me, they help me and my family," he said. "The economy is great. The EPA rollbacks help us."

Patrick Eric Toth, a 51-year-old Michigan autoworker, told NBC News he voted for Democrats on Tuesday because Trump's anti-immigration rhetoric repelled him and Republicans haven't held the president accountable.

“I don't agree with the immigration stance. I don't. I think sending 15,000 troops to the border for these people coming from Honduras is embarrassing. I think that he lies. It's important to me."

"My wife is going to be upset that I canceled out her vote but I'd do it again," he said. "It's just important to me that somebody, as important as the president, is respectable and I don't think he is."

4. He's a guy who doesn't think much about politics.

“I think that he lies” LOL. It was the troops to the border woke him up.

8. That is a lie...there are going to be layoffs because of steel tariffs and tariffs in general...

GM and Ford have already announced it...Lordstown likely will close.

10. No more bailouts!!!!

I'm sick of these assholes ruining our industries and then bailing them out for billions. 25 billion to farmers already! Now how much to pay for our auto industry to stay in business? And all because of the Rump's major tariff cockup!

11. The troops on the border was one lie too many.

It’s a gradual process for GOPer leaving their party. After the’ve seen through one lie, picking the next is easier.

12. The cost is that every car sold in US will cost more

When Mexico must triple wages paid to Mexican auto workers it does help some auto workers. But it hurts everyone who buys a vehicle. It reduces foreign sales of vehicles made in the US. It gives BMW an incentive to leave South Carolina. It hurts more than it helps.
