We CAN and should put an end to Hate Radio, and I think I know the Roadmap

I can’t emphasize enough the impact that Hate-Radio has on our politics and our political discourse.

- Does Pittsburgh, recent site of an evil, murderous attack on a Synagogue, have a major media outlet that demonizes and dehumanizes liberals, Democrats and progressives, and pushes conspiracy theories about “caravans of marauders coming to kill us, backed by Jewish funders?”

YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS THEY DO.

- Does Florida have major media outlets that demonize and dehumanize liberals, Democrats and progressives, and would make someone think that mailing pipe bombs to assassinate prominent Democrats would be OK?

YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS THEY DO.

I think that, not only can we take on Hate-Radio and work to kill it, but I also don’t think it would be that difficult to do.

I did some research into just three (3) states that I visit quite often, Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Look at these numbers and tell me why there is not at least a thousand people protesting at the offices of these stations EVERY SINGLE DAY

VIRGINA: My home since retiring from the Navy. WNIS 790 AM is the most powerful AM station in our market. Their offices are located on Waterside Dr in downtown Norfolk, VA. They cover the following cities:

Norfolk – went 68.4% for Hillary, 26.4% for Donnie Shit for Brains

Newport News – went 59.7% for Hillary, 34.6% for Donnie Shit for Brains

Hampton – went 66.7% for Hillary, 29% for Donnie Shit for Brains

Portsmouth – went 66.25 for Hillary, 29.7% for Donnie Shit for Brains

Richmond – went 78.8% for Hillary, 15% for Donnie Shit for Brains

OHIO: My home state, and a place where I still have a home:

- Columbus, OH – AM 610 WTVN, located at 2325 5TH Ave, Columbus, OH. Also home for THE Ohio State University sports broadcasts.

Columbus and Franklin County went 60.6% for Hillary, 34.7% for Donnie Shit for Brains

- Cleveland, OH AM WTAM 1100, located at 6200 Oak Tree BLVD, Cleveland, OH Also the home for Indians, Browns and Cavaliers sports programming

Cleveland went 65.8% for Hillary, 30.8% for Donnie Shit for Brains

- Cincinnati, OH – AM 550 WKRC, located at 1906 Highland, Cincinnati, OH. Also home to Bengals, Reds and University of Cincinnati sports.

Cincinnati went 54.6% for Hillary, 43% for Donnie Shit for Brains

PENNSYLVANIA: My brides home state.

- Pittsburgh, PA – AM 1320 WJAS, 200 Fleet St, Pittsburgh, PA. Also home to University of Pittsburgh sports

Pittsburgh went 58.9% for Hillary, 37.6% for Donnie Shit for Brains

- Philadelphia, PA – AM 1210 WPHT, 400 Market St. Philadelphia, PA. Also home to Eagles, Phillies, 76er’s.

Philadelphia went 82.4 for Hillary, 15% for Donnie Shit for Brains.

Look, this is not a case of “censorship” nor is it “anti-1ST Amendment”.

These stations are demonizing and dehumanizing 60-70% of the communities they serve.

They should face punitive measures for the culture they have spawned, fed and nurtured for over 40 years.

There is something downright insane about allowing these stations to take a giant shit, with impunity, on 60-70% of the residents of their communities.

It’s akin to the chicken coop rolling out the Red Carpet and Welcome Mat for Colonel Sanders.

Keep in mind that this is just an extremely small sample. This very phenomenon repeats itself in hundreds of blue cities from Seattle WA to Miami, FL and from Detroit, MI to New Orleans, LA.

Local stations that make their living taking succor from the very residents and communities they DEMONIZE and DEHUMANIZE on a relentless 24/7/365 schedule.

There should be a counter to that.

There should be a relentless, organized, targeted and continual protest at the doorsteps of these stations until they feel financial pain.

Their choice will then be either change their act and provide some balance to their never-ending bullshit, or take their studio to some trailer in some godforsaken shithole in Dumbfuckistan, ‘Murika.

How long do you think a radio station demonizing and dehumanizing Retrumplicans would last in a “red” area?

We Need to get serious about this. Donnie Shit for Brains is 100% the FIRST AM Hate-Radio president.

We need to make sure he’s also the last. We have the numbers to do so.

1. Good list. Where are the Sinclair and Murdoch channels. Where are the actionable solutions?

Since the FCC fairness doctrine was struck down, what are the recourses?

Money rules. Target the advertisers, both with boycotting and with protests outside of stores/headquarters.

2. Totally agree.

The dems/left have ignored this for over three decades. You should reach out to DUer certainot. He/she is a huge foe of hate radio & has a ton of info about it.

3. In order to do what you suggest

Liberals/progressives need to BUY the stations outright. This is something that for some reason, outside of a one-off Air America or CurrentTV, liberals seem to refuse to do. I.e., doing such means to expect it to take a long time to "turn a profit". But instead of thinking of it as a money pit, it should be considered a "donation towards the cause". And this has to be maintained for years and years.

Here in Philly, Color of Change (and other groups) were able to shame Limpballs and BecKKK off the air (from WPHT) for a brief time and they fled to other stations, but eventually Limballs returned.

Bottom line - you buy it, you own it, you get to program it. It's as simple as that.

6. The whole thing makes no sense to me

But somehow, these stations buy a nice, beautiful studio in the heart of downtown Columbus, and their going to broadcast a show 24/7/365, the theme of which is; "Columbus sucks and 70 percent of your residents are anti-American dumbshits"

It would be like opening a restaurant and then saying; "70 percent of the people in this city suck and should be locked up".

I mean, what the fuck?

That to me is how you go after them. Don't go after Limbaugh broadcasting from his gold tinsel plated toilet in Florida...go after the local stations that have been shitting on the communities they serve.

The fucking host of the local cooking show on one of these stations shouldn't be able to enjoy a meal without getting run out of there on a rail.

9. These stations generally buy "syndicated" hate radio program packages

with variations of RW lineups (some including what you might hear on SiriusXM "Patriot" channel) - you have recently seen some of them on the air on MSNBC like Hugh Hewitt. But he used to be part of a lineup that included William Bennett, Dennis Prager, Mark Levine, Mike Gallagher and some early on included Hannity and/or Ingraham. Then you may have some solo subs of Savage Wiener... and the rest was filled in with some local host and/or news/public affairs segment.

Air America was an attempt to provide syndicated LIBERAL/PROGRESSIVE programming for stations to compete with the above. The problem was again - WE didn't own the stations that the programming would run on so as the RW owners started doubling down on teh crazy, they stopped carrying liberal programming - even in the bluest cities around (notably San Francisco where Savage (Michael) Weiner broadcasts from).

People HAVE BEEN "going after" the local stations FOR YEARS and the stations have made some adjustments (e.g., bringing on a local host rather than run the whole canned RW lineup).

But again - these stations are not owned by "us" and those who do own them are willing to operate AT A LOSS (no commercials except their own RW "Lifelock" or gold-sellers or other nonsense) and will continue to refuse to bow down to "pressure".

Look at what was once Clear Channel, the biggest RW media shop behind Faux Snooze, that rebranded itself "iHeartRadio", and then it filed for bankruptcy just this past March. But despite the bankruptcy, they are still pumping the shit out. It's literally still moving like what you see with the momentum of a vehicle continuing to barrel forward after all its wheels have come off.

Another - Cumulus Media (which also owns once separate Westwood One) ALSO filed for bankruptcy a year ago this month, but their wrecked vehicle is still moving.

One of my mother's favorite sayings - "Bless the child that has his own".

8. Yes, it's as simple as that

but it doesn't need to be painless.

These stations should be hounded to hell and back for what they've done to our country.

13. The stations have been hounded

and then big conglomerates come in and swap stations to other conglomerates and you start all over.

Big ticket Democrats need to create their OWN media juggernaut and buy some of the bundles of stations that get "discarded" from their RW owners in order for those owners to get FCC/DOJ approval to merge with other RW nut media conglomerates.

The problem too, which is something I see reflected here on DU, is this stupid notion that "no one listens to radio", let alone "AM radio". THAT is bullshit. Many of the people we keep claiming we want to reach live in areas that have little or no broadcast television reception, nor cable or internet (outside of dial-up and maybe a satellite dish).. Whereas the signals for AM radio can go for hundreds of miles deep into their rural and small town areas.

Growing up (and even now) I used to get my little transistor radio here in Philly and listen to WLS in Chicago or WLW in Cincinnati or WRC in D.C. metro and of course the NYC stations (WABC, WCBS, WOR). That's how I unfortunately happened to hear Limpballs very first broadcast when he took the slot of Lynn Samuels at noon on WABC. This was back in '88 when he was actually broadcasting in NY before he eventually moved to and barricaded himself in a mansion in Florida.

4. Most of these stations are owned by Clear Channel -

I think they are 'I {heart} radio' now - and Cumulus. As such they don't care a lot about local conditions.
IIRC Clear Channel is actually being run by Bane Capital these days as it has been teetering on bankruptcy for a while.

So you may camp on the doorsteps, but there may be no one inside who cares.
We tried to confront our local Clear Channel station many years ago. We had a brief victory followed by many years of crap.

7. They don't care

But I bet the Local Stations do

Cut off their advertising stream.

March on the streets in front of their stations.

March on the president of the University and let them know they need to pull their sports broadcasts.

Don't give them a moments peace until they change.

Your brief victory should have been followed by relentless protests

11. The local stations are BUNDLES that have RW owners.

There are very very few "independently-owned" stations left except for a few (struggling) black-owned stations and some Hispanic-owned stations.

When the various iterations of the Communications Act were updated during the '90s (deregulation), it allowed one owner to buy up multiple stations in the same media market, and the most recent updates in FCC rules allowed one owner to have multiple media types in a single media market.

Recently, the latest "entity" to own stations is Entercom. They bought up the stations once owned by Infinity (which included the CBS-affiliate news radio station here in Philly - KYW & talk station WPHT) and other previously CBS-owned radio stations once they merged with CBS Radio.

You have the earlier big bundle of Cumulus that acquired Citadel and then more stations were combined or spun off to other station bundlers...

Bottom line - probably 90% of stations today are corporate-owned.

10. Bring back the Fairness Doctrine!

They want to air 4 hours of Rush Limbaugh's hate speech? Fine, then they must give equal time to the other side. Fair is fine.

12. I think Hannity made a huge error

Now when we pressure Public Universities about picking the stations that air their games we have something that may trump the highest bidder argument, which is a valid argument.

It changes when one of the hosts is seen on stage with a candidate from either political party. May seem nitpicking, but these things matter. Universities should be impartial which has always been their highest bid argument. Now we have a counter narrative.

14. Punish their sister stations as well

A shit ton of these stations also broadcast sports, college and pro.

Go after that fatted calf and then they'll pay attention.

Say JC Penney also owns Racist R Us...if you shop at Penney's, you're still supporting garbage.

Same with these stations. If you broadcast Patriots football on a station that is also owned by a group that pollutes our fucking airways with hateful dribble... you're still supporting hateful dribble

15. Go digital. Shut down the AM stations.

However the cat is out of the bag. The genie is out of the bottle.

With the way the election is turning so far the damage done won't be easy to fix. We're stuck with the likes of Limpballs and Insanity on the airwaves for years to come.

16. Nail - meet hammer

You are so right about this! And it's a shame that we Democrats have ignored this issue for way too long.
Boycotting the radio stations, and the products advertised on these stations will go a long way.
Publicize your boycott by writing Letters to the Newspaper Editor, comments on blogs, etc.
File complaints with your local authorities - mayor's office, county boards, Better Business Bureaus, etc.
Get community groups involved and make them aware of the damage & bad public relations etc.

We have the means to shut these hate-radio stations down. And it has to happen now.
