NY 22nd voting report

So turnout here seems to be fairly low. I voted at 12:30 EST, 6.5 hours into voting, and was voter #207. That said, this is my first election living here, so I can't speak to how this year compares to previous years. It's a rural, working class area, so I wouldn't be surprised if turnout is usually highest after work hours.

I'm in a pretty red part of the state, but Claudia Tenney was only leading Anthony Brindisi by one point in the most recent NY Times poll (+- 4.7%). I'm cautiously optimistic.

There was pretty much no line, paper ballots, and the process was efficient.

You really can't tell much by the number of voters on a machine Jersey Devil Nov 2018 #1

Sometimes machines are switched out so they start again from number 1, etc. Don't be discouraged. As you say, maybe a lot more will vote later.

I'm not discouraged, though perhaps I didn't convey that well enough. Being new to voting here, I honestly have no idea how what I saw compares to normal, or what low turnout reflects in this district, in the event that turnout actually is low. Given the composition of the area, low turnout could be a good thing for us, here. I really have no idea. Just wanted to report my observations!

In my town in NJ I ran for office and also managed campaigns so I followed our local voting levels carefully and found we always did better with a low turnout. Why, I have no idea, but that is how it worked for us.

I moved here from MD, so being a blue voter in a red area is a new thing for me. Kinda makes sense that low turnout in a red area means something entirely different from low turnout in a blue area.

NY 27th here. You know the district that may (probably) elect a man facing insider trading charges.

Have you checked your precinct's early voting turnout? Ours was very high, and since this is an extremely red district most of the increase has to be people who normally vote on election day.

Good luck for Brindisi.
